No. 511,780. Patented Jan. 2, 1894.
' WIZJVESSES IJVVEJVZOZ? W} M Attorney nnnnnnnnnnn Lm-lugnAPuma company,
UNITED STATES.
PATENT Enron,
HIRSH KAPLAN, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
COFFEE-FLASK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 511,780, dated January 2, 1894.
Application filed June 6, 1892. Serial No, 435,692- No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HIRsH KAPLAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coffee-Flasks; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of. reference marked thereon, which forms a part of this specification.
My invention has relation to pocket colfee flasks used by mechanics and artisans for carrying coffee, tea or other liquids, that are usually heated at the lunch or dinner hour, and the object is to provide a simple, cheap and non-explosive form of flask for this purpose as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly set forth in the claim.
The figure in the drawing is a perspective view of my improved coffee flask with a portion of the wall broken away to show the safety tube.
A is the flask proper and is provided with the ordinary screw cap B.
O is a U-sha-ped tube one end 0 of which projects a short distance through the top a, of the flask and communicates with the atmosphere. The other end 0' is beveled obtusely to the line of the tube, and is soldered to the side of the flask, with the beveled end in contact with the under side of the top of the flask so as to leave a small air vent in said beveled end of the tube at the highest point in the top of the can. The can being filled with the liquid, and the air tight cap screwed down, the whole may then be transported without danger of spilling even should the flask be carried in an inverted position, and should it be necessary to warm or heat the flask and contents at the noon or dinner hour, it may be placed on astove or heater without unscrewing the cap, and left to itself, there mon form of flask, should the contents be heated while the cap is tight, as is frequently the case through the failure or neglect of the user to loosen it. The beveled end 0' of the tube being located near the top prevents cofiee groundsor the likegettingintothetube. The other end extending a short distance above the level of the top tends to prevent dirt or foreign matter-getting in while cleaning.
Having thus fully described myinvention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s
The combination with the body of the flask provided with a filling-and-discharge opening located centrally in its top portion and provided with externally disposed screwthreads and a screw-cap, of the nearly U- shaped tube 0 having the open end of its longer arm projecting slightly above the outer surface of the top of the flask and permanently secured in the top of the flask, and having the shorter arm of said tubeO beveled at its upper end and secured to the side Wall of the flask within the body of the same and immediately below the top-wall of said flask, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
I-IIRSH KAPLAN.
Vitnesses:
H. J. ENNIS, S. H. SHLOMBERG.
