Abstract

Disclosed herein is an iron for ironing socks or stockings so that the sole portions thereof are disposed in a plane which is perpendicular to the plane of a conventionally ironed sock. That is, the iron comprises an elongated flat member having a projecting portion fixed transversely thereto and defining a portion for extending into the heel section of a stocking which is to be ironed. Thus, the iron disclosed therein functions to iron stockings or socks into a form which more closely approximates the form of a human foot.

The iron is provided with a transverse portion projecting substantially perpendicular to said flat member and extending transversely thereof for projecting into the heel portion of a sock in which the iron is inserted.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The accompanying drawings illustrate one embodiment of the invention. In such drawings;
FIG. 1 is a plan view of an iron according to one embodiment of the invention; and
. FIG. 2 is a side view of the iron illustrated in FIG. 1.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT In one embodiment of the invention, as shown in the drawing, an elongated fiat member is provided for insertion into a sock which is to be ironed. The flat member 10 has a toe portion 12 extending transversely thereof so that the sole portion of the stocking is disposed on the iron in a plane which corresponds to the transverse plane of a human foot. A projection 14 is provided intermediate the length of the flat member 10, and such projection 14 extends transversely of the flat member and perpendicularly thereto for forming the heel por tion of a stocking which is disposed over the iron.
As shown, the toe portion 12 of the device may be provided with extensions corresponding to toes, and the projection 14 divides the flat member 10 into a sole portion 16 and an ankle portion 18. Thus, the disclosed iron functions to form a sock or stocking in a flat plane which is perpendicular to the plane in which stockings are conventionally ironed and displayed for sale.
Various heating means may be incorporated in the structure of the iron, but preferably, the iron is heated electrically by a heating coil distributed therein. According y. the iron is preferably manufactured in two sections shown as 10a and 10b, and held together by a plurality of screws 20.
What I claim is:
l. A heating and drying form comprising an elongated flat heating member for insertion into a stocking which is to be dried and formed, a projecting member fixed to said flat member and extending transversely thereof for projecting into the heel portion of the stocking to be formed, said projecting member being disposed intennediate the length of said flat member, thereby dividing said flat member into two sections for respectively receiving a sole portion and an ankle portion of the stocking, wherein said elongated fiat member having said projecting member fixed thereto comprises two elongated plate sections disposed in adjacent parallel planes, one of said plate sections being flat, and the other including said projecting member, and means for connecting said two plate sections together to enclose a heating coil.

Claims (1)

1. A heating and drying form comprising an elongated flat heating member for insertion into a stocking which is to be dried and formed, a projecting member fixed to said flat member and extending transversely thereof for projecting into the heel portion of the stocking to be formed, said projecting member being disposed intermediate the length of said flat member, thereby dividing said flat member into two sections for respectively receiving a sole portion and an ankle portion of the stocking, wherein said elongated flat member having said projecting member fixed thereto comprises two elongated plate sections disposed in adjacent parallel planes, one of said plate sections being flat, and the other including said projecting member, and means for connecting said two plate sections together to enclose a heating coil.
