The disposal drawer consists of a main drawer having a movable drawer therein to transport and release its contents in a trash receptacle located in the enclosure.
This invention relates to a sanitary disposal device.
Trash disposal devices known to date do not provide efficient sanitary protection and are either for exclusive use indoors or outdoors. Still further, these devices are not constructed for disposal of liquids or easy cleaning of its trash carrying receptacle.
It is a feature of the present invention to provide a sanitary waste and trash disposal cabinet which substantially overcomes any of the above mentioned disadvantages.
Accordingly, from one broad aspect the present invention relates to a sanitary disposal device comprising an enclosure for receiving waste from -a waste disposal drawer. This drawer consists of a main drawer secured in sliding engagement in the enclosure. A movable inner drawer is adapted to travel within the main drawer to transport and release its contents in the enclosure when the main drawer is displaced from a loading position out of the enclosure to an unloading position in the enclosure.
The invention is illustrated with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the sanitary device,

FIG. 3 is a side sectional view of the sanitary device,
FIG. 4 is a perspective exploded View of the sanitary drawer, and
FIG. 5 is a schematic diagram of the electrical circuit.
Referring now to the drawings, and more particularly to FIGS. l to 4, there is shown generally at the sanitary disposal device which comprises essentially of a waste storing enclosure 11 and an associated sanitary drawer assembly 12. The sanitary drawer assembly 12 is secured in sliding engagement above the storing enclosure 11 in an enclosure extension 18 which extends beyond the enclosure 12 for mounting in a wall 13 so that the enclosure 11 is positioned on one side of a wall 13, whilst the drawer assembly 12 is accessible from the opposite side of the wall 13.
The waste storing enclosure 11 is provided with doors on its outside wall (not shown) for access to its contents. Inside the enclosure 11 there is secured two parallel tracks 14 on which there is mounted a bag supporting collar 15, supported in sliding engagement on the tracks 14. The collar 15 is for supporting a trash receptacle such as a garbage bag 16 of the conventional polyethylene type. The bag 16 is secured to the collar 15 by folding Ia portion of the open end of the bag about the collar 15 and then securing it thereto by a resilient band 17 or other suitable means. The collar 15 and bag 16 are then displaced to a trash receiving position as shown by phantom lines 18. Once the bag 16 is yfilled with trash, another empty bag is secured to the collar and the full bag is stored next to it. -Of course, the size of the enclosure 11 can be made bigger to accommodate more bags. Further, the collar 15 could be conveniently permanently secured under the drawer assembly 12. However, by having the collar 15 mounted on -a track, when the bag 16 is full, it does not have to be lifted for storage as it can slide to the position shown in PIG. 2, disengaged with the collar 15 and tied at the top.
Referring more particularly now to FIG. 4, there is shown the drawer assembly 12 as comprising essentially of a main drawer 25 and -a movable inner drawer 26 secured for sliding engagement within the main drawer 25. 'Ihe main drawer is provided with wheels 27 on the side walls thereof for engagement on a track 28 secured substantially horizontal and in the same plane in the enclosure extension 18 above the waste storing enclosure 11. The front face 29 of the main drawer 25 is slightly larger than the transverse cross-section of the drawer to abut -against the wall 13 when closed. The front face 29 may also be provided with an insulating backing (not shown) to further insulate the drawer opening in the wall 13. As can be seen from PEG. 3, the main drawer 25 is of sufficient length to extend substantially the full length of the enclosure extension 18 and through ia standard width wall 13. The length of the main drawer 25 can, of course, be made longer to accommodate walls which are substantially thicker. The bottom 30 of the main drawer does not extend the full length of the drawer, thus providing an opening 31, substantially the same size as the bottom of the movabe drawer 26, for purposes which will be described later.
The -movable inner drawer 26 is substantially shorter than the main drawer 25 and is supported within the main drawer on two wheel bearings 32 secured on opposite side walls 33 in the upper end of the inner drawer 26 and retained between two tracks 34 secured, substantially horizontal and in the same plane, in the upper end of the longitudinal sides of the main drawer 25. Thus, the movable inner drawer 26 is securely retained in sliding engagement within the main drawer 25 The movable drawer 26 has no bottom and is provided with a bracket 35 extending adjacent one end of the open bottom 36 between the side walls 33. A basket 3-7 substantially of the form of a bucket is secured to the bracket 35 by means of a hinge 38 secured to the bracket 35 and adjacent an end of the basket 37 for pivotal movement of the basket 37 through the open bottom 36. The basket 37 is of such configuration as to retain a quart of liquid therein when in its substantially horizontal position (main drawer 25 pulled out so that basket rests on the bottom 30 of the main drawer).
To provide the travel Of the movable drawer 26 within the main drawer 25, the front wall 39 of the movable drawer 26 has a cord 40 secured thereto and trained about a rst pulley 41 secured in the front of the drawer 25, and a second pulley 42, secured to its side. The cord 40 then extends rearwardly to a fixed brace 43 located behind the track 28 of the main drawer. This rst cord 40 is secured in this position with the movable drawer supported in the front of the main drawer 25 which is pulled to its loading position out of the extension 18. With the movable drawer 26 in this position, the rear wall 44 thereof has a second cord 45 secured thereto and trained about a first pulley 46, secured to the rear wall of drawer 25 and a second pulley 47 secured to the side thereof and then extends to the front to secure to a fixed brace 48 positioned to the side and substantially halfway of the length of the tracks 28 supporting the main drawer 25.
Referring now to FIG. 5 there is shown the schematic of the electrical circuit associated with the sanitary device 10. A rst switch contact 56, consisting of a normally closed contact, is connected in the circuit between the B+ (power supply) and a blower motor 57 for driving a connected' in the circuit between the blower motor 57V and ground. Switch 56 is maintained open by the rear wall 49 of the main drawer 25 when this drawer is fully closed. As soon as the drawer 25 is open slightly, the switch contact 56 closes, thus completing the circuit to the blower 57 to actuate the fan 58 causing a downdraft in the enclosure 11. The indicator lamp 59 will glow indicating the drawer is open and the fan 58 is operating.
As can be seen with further reference to FIG. 3, when the main drawer is closed the basket 37 is tilted downward to release its contents in a garbage bag 16 positioned below it. To detect when the garbage bag 16 is full, a further switch contact 60 is secured below the main drawer 25 and is maintained open by a portion of the basket 37 when in the full tilted down position. As the garbage bag 16 becomes filled to the top, the leading edge of the basket 37 rests upon the surface of the Waste in the bag 16 and does not tilt to its full tilted down position, thus causing switch 60 to remain closed and completing the circuit from the B+ supply to lamp 61 and ground. Therefore, lamp 61 will glow even with the main drawer closed, indicating that the garbage bag 16 is full and should be replaced.
To summarize the operation, when the main drawer 2S is pulled out completely, to a loading position, the movable inner drawer 26 simultaneously moves to the front of the main drawer. The waste is inserted in a bucket 37 contained within the movable drawer 26 and the main drawer is closed. As the main drawer 25 closes, the movable drawer moves to the rear of the main drawer to an unloading position where the bucket 37 pivots downwardly through the opening 31 to release its contents in a garbage bag detachably secured thereunder.
Sensing means such as electrical switch contacts may be provided to operate a blower to cause a downdraft as soon as the main drawer begins to open. Such means may also be provided to detect and indicate when the garbage bag 16 is full.
I claim:
1. A sanitary disposal device comprising enclosure means for receiving waste from a waste disposal drawer, sad Waste disposal drawer consisting of a main drawer secured in sliding engagement in said enclosure means and a movable inner drawer adapted to travel within said main drawer to transport and release its contents in said enclosure means when said main drawer is displaced from a loading position out of said enclosure means to an unloading position in said enclosure means, wherein said movable inner drawer has an open bottom and a trash receiving basket pivotally secured therein above said open bottom for discharging its contents in said enclosure means through said open bottom when said main drawer is closed.
2. A sanitary disposal device as claimed in claim 1 wherein said enclosure means is a cabinet enclosure having one or more trash receptacles therein for receiving said contents of said inner drawer when in its unloading position, and wherein said cabinet enclosure includes a displaceable supporting collar for supporting a garbage bag in its open position, said collar being supported on tracks adjacent the top of said enclosure for displacement from a trash receiving position below said waste disposal drawer to a bag unloading position to the side ofA said trash receiving position.
3. A sanitary disposal device as-claimed in clam 1 wherein said main drawer has an open ended bottom to support said basket substantially horizontally when said main drawer is open and to cause said basket to pivot downwardly through said open end of said bottom when said main .drawer is closed. A

A sanitary disposal device as claimed in claim 3 wherein said movable inner drawer has a cord secured to each of its front and rear wall respectively, each ofl said cords secured to said front and rear wall respectively being trained about one or more pulleys secured to the front and rear wall respectively of said main drawer and then secured at its other end to a respective iixed brace whereby when said main drawer is pulled out of said enclosure said movable inner drawer travels to the front of said main drawer, and when said main drawer is pulled into said enclosure, said movable inner drawer travels to the back of said main drawer. i
5. A sanitary disposal device as claimed in claim 1 wherein said inner drawer is of substantially smaller length than said main drawer and provided with at least one wheel bearing on each side wall thereof for sliding engagement in a respective track in each side of said main drawer.
6. A sanitary disposal device as claimed in claim 1 wherein a switch contact sensing means is associated with said main drawer to activate av blower secured to said enclosure means to cause a downdraft in said enclosure when said main `drawer is open.
