2 SHEETSSHEET 2. 26 -E I entree. sures Parser a V fours P. wn mz, or roursvrrinn. KENTUCKY.
To all whom it may concern:
, Be it known that I, Lotus P. Wanna, a
citizen of the United States, residing at.
Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Vegetable Bins, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. V This invention relates to sanitary vegetable bins. d
An important object of the invention is to provide a bin of this character which may be readily filled without injury to the clothes or person. I
A further object is to provide a bin of this character wherein potatoes, while readily accessible at all times, may not escape from the bin either in being placed in the bin or subsequently.
A further object isto provide a bin having a false bottom upon which the potatoes rest, this false bottom being perforated and the bin being provided below the false bottom with suitable drawer or receptacle wherein the foreign material, such as dirt or small potatoes and similar refuse passing through V the false bottom may collect for periodic removal.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent throughout the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings, wherein, for the purpose of illustration is shown .a preferred embodiment of my invention, and wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout,
Figure 1 is a plan of a multiple c'ompart ment bin constructed in accordance with my invention. I
Figure 2 is a front elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a transverse section taken therethrough.
Figure 4 is an enlarged section'taken on the line 44 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a sectional view illustrating the removability of the grid and tray.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 10 indicates the sides of the bin. These sides are enlarged at their lower ends as at 11,-for a purpose hereinafter to appear. The bin is likewise pr0- vided with a back 12, and above the enlargement 11 with a front 13.
To this frontat the upper end thereof is pivotally connected a filling door provided I SANITARY VE ETA LE; 311w.

at its sides with inwardly directed flanges 15. Stops 16 are secured to the side walls 10 and operate in slots 17 formed in the flanges 15 limiting theoutward movement of the door. These flanges 15 combine with the door 14 to form a chute wherebythe bin may I be filled.
The upper face of the enlargement 11 is inclined as at 18,. and to the front of the enlargement at the lower endof the inclined portion 18 is secured a transverse strip 19. To this strip a door 20 is pivotally connected as at 21. This door combines with the side and rear walls of the casing and with the bottom thereof to form a receiving hopper.
The upper end of this receiving hopper is restricted by members 23 secured to the side and rear walls and to the strip 19. These strips 23 have their inner faces downwardly inclined, as clearly shown in the drawings, thus providing the lower compartment with a substantially funnel shaped month. Within the compartment and spaced below the strips 23 are strips 24 secured to the side and rear walls of the compartment. These strips form guides upon which is slidably and removably mounted a perforated false bottom 25. Below the false bottom 25 and the supporting and guiding strips 24 thereof and.
like, and which, as it is not necessary to shift the same in order to fill the bin, may in any case be employed for display.
In use the bin is filled through the door 14. Potatoes fall downward upon the false bottom 25 and the dirt carried thereby passes through the false bottom into the tray 26. The baffle 27 prevents potatoes from being pushed by the weight above so far forwardly that they will be crowded out into the opening afforded between the inclined walls 18 but allows the potatoes to pass forwardly sufficiently to be readily accessible through this opening by a scoop or the like.
It will be obvious that my device, by reason of the simplicity of its construction, is particularly well adapted for use, and it will likewise be observed that the construction now claim is:
1. A bin embodying sides having enlarge- .ments adjacent the bottom thereof, top and bottom, a perforated false bottom remov-' ably supported within the bin above and spaced from the bottom thereof and intermediate the enlargements of said sides, and a receptacle remo-vably supported upon the bottom of the bin, the upper surface ofgthe 1 accordingly do not limit enlargement being free from covering where- :by to provide an opening affording access to the upper surface of said false bottom;
2. A bin embodying sides, top and bottom,
a perforated false bottom "removably supported within the bin above and spaced from the bottom thereof, a receptacle supported upon the bottom of the bin, the bin being provided in one side wall thereof with an openingaffording access to the upper surface of said false bottom and beneath the last named opening with a second opening through which said false bottom and said receptacle may be removed and a hinged clo sure for said second opening. a
In testimony whereof I hereunto afli xmy 35 signature.
LOUIS r. WERNZ.
