Abstract

A bag holder comprises a supporting member 7 for holding a roll of plastics refuse bags and supporting the bottom of the bag to be loaded at one end of the roll, and an upper ring member 1 for holding said bag in an open and upright position, the two members being separate so that they can be secured at spaced apart positions corresponding to the bag's length. The holder member 1 carries a lid 5 by means of which the open end of the bag may be covered, and comprises two components 2, 3 spring loaded in such a direction as to hold open the mouth of the bag, the components 2, 3 being relatively moveable against the spring loading to facilitate bag removal and replacement. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Frame for holding a bag This invention relates to a frame for holding a bag, particularly a refuse bag of plastics material, in a suspended or standing position with its mouth open, the said frame being of the kind comprising a ring-shaped or frameshaped holder member for the upper open mouth of the bag spaced above a supporting member for supporting the lower closed part of the bag.
In the frame disclosed in our GB Patent Application No. 2079 718 the holder member is supported above the supporting member only by means of a pair of generally upright supports, and the supports are connected to fixing means by means of which the frame can be secured to a generally upright supporting surface (such as a wall).
The frame of our GB Patent Application No.
2 079 718 is of fixed length which consequently dictates the size of bag which can be held by the frame. Also since the frame of our GB Patent Application No. 2 079 718 is substantially rigid in construction any packaging to accommodate the frame must be of greater overall dimensions than that of the frame. This, in turn, means that considerable space is required for the storage in packaged form, of a frame of our GB Patent Application No. 2 079 718.
According to our invention in a frame of the kind set forth the holder member and the supporting member comprise separate components and each member is provided with fixing means by means of which the members can be secured to a generally upright supporting surface in any convenient spaced-apart relationship.
This has the advantage that the spacing between the two frames can be readily chosen for consistency with the size of bag with which the frame is to be used. Also the two members can be packaged into a relatively small volume for storage and transportation, thereby conserving space.
The fixing means may comprise mounting plates integral with the members. In its position of use, a roll of bags is supported by a lower portion of the supporting member, and the lower end of a bag is supported by an upper portion of the supporting member.
The holder member may comprise two components which are spring-loaded in a direction to hold the mouth of a bag open and in tension, with the components being relatively movable against the spring loading to facilitate bag removal and replacement.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example only in the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a frame in accordance with the invention for holding a refuse bag, in particular a refuse bag at the end of a roll of such bags, in a suspended or standing position; Figure 2 is a side view of a part of the frame shown in Fig. 1; Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig.
2; and Figure 4 is a frontal view of the other part of the frame shown in Fig. 1, The frame illustrated in the drawings comprises an upper holder member 1 of substantially trapezoidal outline and a lower supporting member 7.
The upper holder member 1 is constructed of plastics material, for example polystyrene.
The holder member 1 comprises a rear member 2 and a front member 3, connected in a manner described below. The rear member 2 carries mounting plates 4 by which the holder member 1 is attached to a supporting surface.
A lid 5 is hinged to the rear member 2 at 6.
The supporting member 7 is moulded from a suitable material, for example polystyrene, and comprises a mounting plate 8, by which the supporting member is attached to the supporting surface, and from which a lower portion in the form of a plurality of tabs 9 with upturned ends 10 projects outwardly and slightly upwardly. An upper portion in the form of a shelf portion 11 projects outwardly and upwardly from the top of the mounting plate 8. The shelf portion is provided with an upturned rim 1 2 and a slot 1 3. Side portions 1 9 serve to brace the shelf portion 11 and may carry pockets (not shown) in which may be stored the ties which are used to seal the bags for disposal.
In use, a roll of bags (shown in dotted lines) is supported on the tabs 9 where it is retained partly by the rearward inclination of the tabs 9 and partly by the upturned ends 1 0. The end of the roll is pushed through the slot 1 3 and the end bag opened at its mouth and fed through the holder member 1. The bag is then fitted over the holder member 1 by turning the tip of the bag over the holder member 1. When the bag is full or partially full it is supported by the shelf portion 11, the upturned rim 1 2 and the rearward inclination of the shelf portion 11 serving to restrain the bag from falling from the shelf.
In order that the bag may be easily removed from the holder member 1, front and rear members 3 and 2 respectively are relatively moveable telescopically.
The front member 3 is guided for sliding movement over rear member 2 by runners 21, 22 on the rear members 2. Moreover, the holder member 1 is spring loaded to remain in a configuration of maximum perimeter. Fig.
3 shows one of two springs 1 4 forcing apart rear and front members 2 and 3 respectively, the ends of the spring bearing on projections 1 5 and 16, two of each being provided respectively on those members. Outward tra vel of the front member 3 is limited by the engagement of enlarged end portions 1 7 of the front member 3 with projections 15, which form the rear walls of housings 1 8 which are integral with the rear member 2 and which contain the springs 14. To release the bag, front member 3 is pushed rearwardly against the force of the springs 1 4. The consequent reduction in the perimeter of the holder member 1 simplifies removal of the bag.
There being no intermediate structure between holder member 1 and supporting member 2, the frame may advantageously be mounted on a supporting surface, for example a kitchen door or kitchen wall, for use with bags of any chosen length. Moreover, the frame can be packed in a small volume for transportation and storage.
