A. K. OWEN.
SLIP HOLDER.
No. 366,423. Patented July 12, 1887.
INVENTOR %%M wmmsszs ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ASA K. O\VEN, OF LAKE GENEVA, \VISOONSIN.
SLIP-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 366,423, dated July 12, 1887.
Application filed December 22, 1866. Serial No. 222,301.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Asa K. OWEN, of Lake Geneva, in the county of Walworth and State of \Visconsin, have invented a new and Improved Slip-Holder, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which-- Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved slipholder. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, and Fig. 3 is a detail view of the slip fastener.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and efficient device for holding paper slips, such as checks or receipts; also to provide a device in connection therewith for tearing the checks or receipts from their stubs.
My invention consists in a board longer than the check or receipt to be blocked, provided near one end with a pair of curved loops for receiving the perforated slips, and in the com binatiou, with the board, of aswinging papercutter adapted to swing over upon the top of a series of slips and rest upon the outer slip along the line of separation between the slip and stub, to facilitate tearing the slip upon that line, all as hereinafter more fully described.
The board A, forming the body of the holder, is made of a little greater width than the slip to be held thereon, and its length is about equal to the length of one of the slips, including its stub, together with an additional stub.
Near one end of the board A are secured two curved loops, B, having an eye, a, at one end and an outwardlyturned point, I), at the opposite end. The eyes a are inserted in cavities in the board and secured therein by pins 0, and the outwardly-turned ends I) are adapted to be received in recesses (1, formed in the top of the board A. In the side of each recess d is inserted a tongue, 6, which projects partly across the recess in position to engage the outwardlyturned end I) of the loop B.
Upon the loops B are placed the slips 0, the slips being provided with apertures f for receiving the said loops, and the slips G are held in place upon the board A by bringing the outwardly-turned ends I) of the loops B into engagement with the tongues e, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
(No model.)
A paper-cutter, D, having armsg, provided with eyes h, is pivotally-secured to the board A by screws i, passing through the eyes it into the edges of the board A. The arms 9 are bent so as to incline the outer edge of the paper-cutter D downward toward the slips held on the board A, and the position of the cutter D relative to the loops B is such as to cause the edge of the cutter-D to rest upon the dividingline between the stub j and the body is of the slips 0, so that when the cutter D is pressed down upon the slip the body of the slip may be torn along the edge of the cutter. The space between the loops B and the end of the board A is sufficient to allow the stubs j to be turned back out of the way.
To permit of hanging up the slip-holder, also to provide a stop for the paper-cutter D, a screw-eye, Z, is inserted in the end of the board A.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. The combination, with the board A, provided with the recesses d, of the loops B, pivotall y connected with the board, and the tongues e, projecting into the recesses (1, sub stantially as shown and described.
2. The combination, with the board A, adapted to hold the slips G, of the cutter D, provided with arms 9, pivoted to the edges of the board A, substantially as shown and described.
3. The combination, with the board A, adapted to hold the slips C, of the cutter D, provided with arms 9, pivoted to the edges of the board A, and the screw-eye l, substantially as shown and described.
4. The combination, with the board A, provided with the recesses d, ofthcloops B, pivotally connected with the board A, the tongues e, projecting into the recesses (l, and the paper-cutter 1'), provided with arms 9, pivotally connected with the board A, substantially as shown and described.
ASA K. OWEN.
