Description

S. NORWOOD.
GURRY COMB.
No. 866,019. Patented Jul 5, 1887.
INVENTOE WITNESSES:
ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES SAMUEL NORlVOOD, OF WEST GREENE, ALABAMA.
CURRY COlVlB.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.'366,019, dated July 5, 1887.
Application filed October 15, 1886. Serial No. 216,336. (No modeh) To all whom, it mag concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL NORWOOD, of West Greene, in the county of Greene and State of Alabama, have invented a new and Improved'Ourry-Comb, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figure 1 is a plan View of my improved curry-comb, with parts broken away to show the construction. Fig. 2 is alongitudinal section, taken on line 00 m, in Fig. 1, looking in the direction indicated by the arrows; and Fig. 3 is a transverse section, taken on line y y in Fig. 1, looking in the direction indicated by the arrows.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
The object of'my invention is to provide a curry-comb having yielding teeth, which may be projected more or less.
My invention consists in a frame provided with longitudinal bars and series of combteeth supported by a yielding frame, an adjusting-screw swiveled to the swing-frame supporting the comb-teeth, and a removable support for the adj listing-screw, all as hereinafter more fully described.
The frame A, forming the body of the curryeomb, consists of the side pieces, a a, the end pieces, b b, riveted to the side pieces, and longitudinal bars 0, which are bent at right angles at opposite ends and secured to the end pieces, I) b, so as to leave the intervening slots, d, through-which the comb'teeth may be projected. In the side piece, a, are formed apertures e, for receiving the fingers f, projecting from the edge of the frame B, which is fitted into the frame A. To the side piece, a, is secured a handle, 0, having knuckles g, which project over the side piece, a, and receive a pin, h, which also passes through an eye, 2, on the end of the middle eross-bar,j, of the frame B.
' In the frame A, between the bars a and the frame B, is placed a series of toothed bars, D,
posite edges and bent at right angles so as to be substantially U shaped in cross-section. The teeth of each bar D pass outward on op posite sides of one of the bars 0, and the bars D are connected by cross-bars k k. A thumbserew, Z, passes through a threaded hole in the crossbar j of theframe B, and is connected by a swivel-joint with the central cross-bar, k, which connects the bars D. The cross-bars k k are made of thin material, forming with the tooth-bars D a yielding frame, so that the toothed bars D may readily yield to pressure, and the connection of the bark with the screw Z is made loose, so that the bars D may tilt and accommodate themselves to the surface being curried.
WVhen it is desired to remove the toothed bars D for renewal or for cleaning, the pin it is withdrawmwhen the frame B,together with the toothed bars and parts connected therewith, may be readily removed from the frame A.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a curry-comb, the combination, with a main supporting-frame having a slotted bot-' tom, and an inner frame, B, fitting within the main frame, of a yielding tooth-frame within the main frame and below the frame B, and a screw for vertically adjusting the tooth-fram e, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. In a curry-comb, the combination of the frame A, the toothed bars D, and the crossbars 7c, the removable frame B, and the ad jnsting-serew l, substantially as described' 3. In a curry-comb, the combination, with the frame A, formed of side pieces, a a, end pieces, I) b, and longitudinal bars a, of the toothed bars D, cross-bars 70 k, the frame B, and the screw Z, turning in the cross-bars of the frame and swiveled to the cross-bar 7c, substantially as described.
