Lowrance Attorney-Waters, Roditi, Schwartz & Nissen [5 7] ABSTRACT A set of container consisting of a small and a large container, particularly for two-component varnishes, which components are to be mixed. The large container is provided with a recess corresponding to the shape and size of the small container and holding means are provided in the recess for interconnection of the two containers. An open vessel, intended for use as a mixing vessel, is arranged to fit around the large and the small container in the area of the recess.
2 Claims, 3 Drawing Figures SET OF CONTAINERS FOR TWO LIQUIDS The present invention relates to an arrangement of a set of containers for two liquids, particularly for two-component varnishes, consisting of a small and a large container.
Liquids which are to be used in combination, for example, the components of a two-component varnish, are usually filled in containers which are then packaged in a common container for sale. lt is frequently the case that a smaller amount of one of the components is required. The smaller amount of liquid is usually a so-called hardener or acclerator. The two liquids which are to be mixed are generally delivered in amounts adapted to the amounts required, so that both containers are emptied at the same time.
When mixing a two-component varnish, two-component glue and thermo-setting plastic reinforced with metal powder, a mixing vessel is required, and since the substances in question harden very rapidly, much work is entailed in maintaining such mixing vessel clean at all times. It is therefore an advantage to deliver a mixing vessel together with the components. The mixing vessel may then be discarded when the components have been used.
Much inconvenience is caused, however, in the transport, sale and use of a varnish which entails handling in the fonn of moving and packaging of goods which consist of three separate parts.
It is the object of the invention to provide a set of containers having the advantage that two containers for a two-component varnish or the like, together with the mixing vessel for the said component, constitute a single unit which may rapidly be separated into the single parts, and, just as rapidly, be as sembled to the said unit.
ln accordance with the invention this is achieved by means of an arrangement of a set of containers for two substances, particularly liquids for two-component varnishes, comprising a small and a large container, and the invention is characterized in that a recess corresponding to the size and shape of the small container is formed in the large container, and that a holding means for the small container is provided in the said recess, and that an open vessel intended for use as a mixing vessel is arranged to fit around the large and the small container in the area of the recess.
The invention is further defined hereinbelow, by means of the drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment form of the invention.
FIG. 1 shows a set of containers according to the invention where the three parts are separate.
FIG. 2 shows a section through the small container along the line Il-ll in FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 shows a set of containers viewed from the side and in partial section.
The large container 1 consists of a plastic can of the type having a handle 3 on the upper surface 2 thereof. At the upper corner edge a pouring spout 4 with screw closure 5 is arranged, the screw closure being of the type which is provided with tear-off sealing. 0n the opposing side of the pouring spout 4, a step 6 is formed in thecontainer 1. For reinforcement of the wall portion of the step, for example, on stacking several cans one upon the other, a reinforcing rib 7 is provided. The said rib 7 is provided with a downwardly inclined groove 8 on one or both sides thereof. The small container 9 is in the form of a plastic box with screw closure 10. The said container 9 corresponds in shape and size to the recess 6 in the large container, so that when the said small container is placed in the recess, it will fill the said recess and the large and small container together will constitute a parallelepipedon. The small container 9 is provided on one side thereof with a channel which widens from the top and downwardly towards the bottom and which is adapted to the rib 7 in the recess 6. On both sides of the groove or channel 11 a lug 12 is provided which, when the small container 9 is inserted in the recess 6 in the large container, engages in the grooves 8 on the reinforcing rib 7 and, in this manner, locks the small container to the large container. When the small container 9 has been set in place in the recess 6 in the large container 1, the mixing vessel 3 IS pressed in from the side, so that the small container and a part of the large container are entirely covered. The shape of the mixing vessel 13 is specifically designed to necessitate a certain force to push it into place, so that it will remain in position around the container 1 and the container 9. In order to seal the entire set of containers, a label may be glued thereon so as to cover the join between the mixing vessel 13 and the container 1. Inadvertent use of the components in the containers is thereby presented, the closure 5 being also sealed.
'By means of the set of containers described hereinabove, it is possible to assemble to a single unit, two containers for liquids which are to be used in combination, and a mixing vessel to be used for mixing of the two components. The set, comprising two containers and a mixing vessel, may be handled during sale and use as a single unit, and it is unnecessary to clean the mixing vessel many times, since a new vessel is included each time the components are bought.
The invention is not restricted to the arrangement illustrated on the drawing. The recess may be provided elsewhere on the large container, for example beneath the handle, as an elongated slot in one of the side surfaces etc.
Having described my invention, 1 claim:
1. Set of containers for two liquids, particularly liquids for two-component varnishes, the said set comprising a small and a large container constituted of a plastic can in the form of a parallelepipedon, a recess being provided in the large container, said recess corresponding to the shape and size of the small container, a holding means being provided in the recess for interconnection of the two containers, the large container at the upper side thereof and preferably symmetrically about the center line, being provided with a handle, and a pouring spout at one of upper corner edges, and the recess being orientated at the comer edge in opposition to the pouring spout and the recess being constituted by a step in this area and an open vessel intended for use as a mixing vessel is arranged to fit around the large and the small container in the area of the recess.
2. Arrangement according to claim 1, characterized in that the holding means is located in a triangular reinforcing rib, in the recess and consists of grooves in the rib, downwardly inclined and directed inwardly towards the can, that the small container is provided with a slot on one of the side surfaces thereof, said slot being adapted to the said rib, lugs being provided to engage in the said groove.
