WIRE CHAIN.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 365,5(13, dated June 28, 1887.

To all whom itamty concern,

Be it known that I, AUGUSTIN ScHILLING, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Attleborough, in the county of Bristol and State of .Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Wire Chains, of which the ibllowingis a specification.

My invention consistsin an improved wire chain, the links of which are formed of a piece of wire bent in the form of a staple, and having its ends turned in opposite directions to form connecting-eyes, which are angularly folded upon each other and have an intermediate length of Single wire between them, which forms a connecting-loop for engagement with the turned eyes of the previously-attached link of the chain.

Figure 1 is a side view of the chain, showing a plan view of the end eyes of the link. Fig. 2 is a side view of the chain, showing a plan view of the loop formed by the bend in Fig. 3 represents a separate link, as shown in "Fig. 1. Fig. 4

represents a separate link, as shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing the opposite turning of the wire to form the eyes of the link.

In the accompanying drawings, A represents a chain consisting of a connected series of" links, which may be formed by first passing a piece of wire through the eyes of the previously-formed link and bending the said wire to the form of a staple. The ends of the wire are then bent in opposite directions laterally of the link, to form the eyes b I), as shown in Fig. 5. The intermediate Single wire, 0, will then form a connecting-loop; and upon bringing the eyes I) b angularly together, as shown in Fig. 4, the link will be completed preparatory for the insertion and bending of another piece of wire to form an additional link of the chain. w

The chain so constructed of wire presents a very desirable ornamental appearance, and is adapted for various useful and ornamental purposes.

I claim as my invention- As a new manufacture, the wire chain formed of links which are folded to form a connectiugloop of single wire, and bent laterally in opposite directions at the ends of the wire to form connectingeyes, substantially as described.
