BRACELET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 333,083, dated December 22, 1885.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES S. PINE, of the city and county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bracelets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.

My invention relates to spring-band bracelets; and the object of my invention is to produce bracelets of this class which shall be composed of a series of units strung upon spring-wires and held upon such wires without solder, whereby the bracelet shall be more.

flexible than solid band-bracelets, and at the same time less expensive.

The above objects are attained by forming the units with extensions which bend over inwardly so as to embrace the spring-wires, as hereinafter described and claimed.

In order that my invention may be fully understood, I will proceed to describe it with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved bracelet. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same. Fig. 3 is an end View of a partly-formed unit. Fig. 4 is an underside view of the same. Fig. 5 is an end View of a completed unit. Fig. 6 is an under side view of the same. Fig. 7 is an end view of an inverted center unit. Fig. 8 is a similar view of a modified form of the center unit.

In the said drawings, a designates the units, and b b the spring-wires, which are preferably of flat form, so as to prevent lateral flexion. Each unit a is made dish-shaped, with two extensions, a, upon the two opposite sides of the unit, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. These extensions (1 are subsequently bent over and inward, so as to assume the shape shown in Figs. 5 and 6. These operations are performed, preferably, by suitable machinery, but may be carried out in any suitable manner. After the extensions have been thus bent the wires b are passed through them successively until a sufficient number of the units have been strung to form the desired length of bracelet.

The units are shown in the drawings as being of square form; butI do not wish to be un derstood as confining myself to this precise form, as various other forms may be adopted without departing from the spirit of my invention.

The bracelet thus constructed possesses all of the advantages of asolid band-bracelet, and is far more flexible longitudinally,while being extremely inexpensive, as all soldering is avoided. The units may be formed of any of the metals used in jewelry manufacture.

These spring-band bracelets may be provided with a larger center unit, 0, in order to increase the ornamental effect. This center unit is preferably formed upon the essential principle of my invention with a slight modification. In other words, the extensions 0, corresponding to the extensions a of the other units, instead of being bent directly over, are first bent flat, as at c", and are then bent over as before, so as to bring the bent-over portions in line with the similar portions,a,of units a, and thus allow of the continuous passage of wires 1); but the center unit may be formed by uniting two halves, c c, and forming the openings 0 c at such distance apart as to allow of the free passage of the wires b b from units a.

Havingthus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. An improved spring-band bracelet, composed ofa series of units strung upon springwires and held upon said wires by inwardlybent extensions bent over said wires, as described.

3. The combination, with the wires 1) b, of the dish-shaped units a, having the extensions a bent over the said wires, as described.

4. The combination, with the wires 1) b and the units a, having the bent extensions a, of the center unit, 0, having the extensions bent as at c c, as set forth.
