PlGEON-HOLE BLOCK FOR KEEPING CHECKS AND VOUCHERS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent. No. 363,852, dated May 31, 1887.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MORRIS L. SAGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Corning, in the county of Steuben and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pigeon -Hole Blocks for Keeping Checks or other Vouchers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it ap'pertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, andto the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The special object of the invention is to 'facilitate the handling of checks and vouchers in banks and large business houses where accounts are kept with numerous individuals.

The invention will first be described in connection with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claim. I

In the drawings, A represents an ordinary case provided with pigeon-holes of any preferred height and width, while, B represents oblong and preferably rectangular boards, plates, or blocks, which are beveled at the end b, so that they may be easily and conveniently manipulated. Any preferred number of these may be arranged in each pigeon-hole, the letters of the alphabet being arranged in regular order over the holes and the name of each customer being placed on the outlying end of a block. The checks or vouchers will be arranged in the order of their filing under each ones block, so that they may be inserted or removed without a moments delay. Thus each patrons checks and vouchers are filed separatelyand in the smallest possible space, so as to save a great deal of time to bookkeepers and accountants.

I preferably make the blocks with an excision or cavity, 1), in which the checks or vouchers may lie, thusincreasing the capacity of each pigeon-hole about forty per cent. This system of keeping checks and vouchers will not require morethan'one-tenth the usual space for a given number under ordinary circumstances.

The checks of a bank when assorted in their boxes are in the same order which characterize their arrangement on the ledger, and in which they will be drawn ofl' on the customerspassbook. Thus it will be seen that checking the Patent, is-

The described pigeon-hole block, consisting of a board, B, cut out at b and having a beveled end adapted to be notated with an individual, or corporate, or firm name, substantially as shown and described.
