To @JZ whom, it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM Exnnn, a etizen of the United States, residing at Harper-s Ferry, in the county of Jefferson and Slate of fest Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cut-Offs and Spouts; and I do declare the following to be ai'ull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertans to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to certain new and use1 ful improvements in water-spouts; and it con sists in a spoutleadcr with two or more diverging spouts arranged near the delivery, a eut-off valve working within the main spout and adapted to cut off the discharge of water from either diverging pipes at will, the object of niy invention being to change the direction of discharge-water from the roof of abuilding (after it has become clear) from waste or drain to the eistern for house use. I attain these objects by means ofthe peculiar' construction and arrangement of the various parts of my device,whieh will be more fully pointed out and described in the specification and claim, reference being had to the drawings accompanying this application and forming part of the same, in which- Figure l is a vertical sectional view of my invention, and Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of valve.

B and O represent diverging pipes that open into and are connected to the main pipe A at its lower extremity on the sides of the same, as thecxtrcme lower end of main pipe A is inclosed by metal in V shape, with a ccntral slotted perforation, n, adapted to receive and loosely hold the handle of valve D, which is made oval in shape around its edges and liat on its upper and lower face. From the center of said valve projects a stein or handle, D', a portion of which from the face of valve D outward is formed flat or angular, the purpose of which is to prevent the steln and valve D from turning when the stem is drawn down and the valve rests in place, the Valve D being turned by pushing the stem inward until the valve is raised from its seat, and the round part of lhe stem moves freely in the slot a, when the valve can be turned round Afrom pipe B to pipe O, changing the course of the water from spout A to the eistern or ground, as desired.
About two-thirds of valve D is provided with an extension, E, that loosely lits around the inside of spout A and between it and an inner casing, A, which is secured by its upper edge to the spout A,with a beveled or inclined surface to permit the descending water to pass freely into the inner easing, A. The inner edges ol' extension E are curved, c, near the valve D to conform to the opening in pipes B and C, so that when the valve 1) and extension E sluit ol'l' the water from pipe O a free open passage is left through pipe B, as shown in Fig. l, and revcrsinglhe valve shuts B and opens pipe O.
I claim In a cut-ofi' and spout, the main pipe A, having inner casing, A, the Curved dischargepipes B and O, having a central slot, a, in combination with theinelined valve D, formed to llt the inclined inner face of the dischargepipes and provided with the curved eXtension E,and the valvesten1D,having an angular upper shoulder, b, all arranged and operated substantially as shown and described.
