Description
(No Model.) I
J. L. GRIBBLE.
EGTIONAL BOAT.
Patented May 10, 1887.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN L. GRIBBLE, OF MACOMB, ILLINOIS.
SECTIONAL BOAT.
SPECIFICATION forming part (if Letters PatentNo. 362,503, dated May 10,1887. Application filed June 23, 1886. Serial No. 206,553. I (No model.)
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, JOHN L. GRIBBLE, a citizen of the United States, and'a resident of Macomb, in the county of McDonough and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sportsmens Boats, of which the following description will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention has for its object the constructing of a sportsmans boat that is not in the least liable to be upset while in operation, it being constructed in two parts and hinged together in such a manner that its form can be changed from a common boat to an L shape, which prevents all liability of upsetting; and its novelty will be fully set forth in the following description, and pointed out in the claim. 7 In the drawing, the figure is a perspective view of the double boat, showing its position when used for fishing or shooting game.
In the drawing, A and B represent the two half parts of my improved sportsmans boat, which are securely attached together by means of the hinge d, and the two parts. are held firm in an L shape, as shown, by the stay-rod s, which-at each end is bent to right angles (see dotted lines) and passes down through the projeeting eyes act on the sides of each part; and, when desired, the stay-rod s can be taken out of its shown position and the part A swung around in parallel with the part B, as shown in dotted lines, and the stay-rod s is placed in the eyes at the outer ends of the two parts, forming a double keel; and, when required, the two parts can be formed into a common rowboat by taking out the stay-rod s and swinging around the part B to the position shown in dotted lines at the rear of the part A, and as the two parts come together the spring-catch 0 on the part B passes into the slot 1; in the part A and holds the two parts together; and, when desired, the parts A and B can be detached by drawing the coupling-pin 6 out of the hinge d; then, by placing the part A at the rear of the part B, pass the coupling-pin 0 through the eye 72 and eyesffin the part B, hinging them together; then swing around the part A to the shown position in dotted lines, and place the stay-rod s as shown in dotted lines. This form is also very convenient for either shooting or fishing purposes.
. The operators, being seated on the stools c 0, can shoot or fish without the least danger of upsetting the boat.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A sportsmans boat constructed in two half parts, A and B, each part having firmly attached on the side rail the stay-rod eyes a a and eyes i i at their outer ends, in combination with the hinge d, which hinges the two parts A and B together on one side at their 1 inner ends, said hinge being constructed so as to allow the boat to be placed in different forms or positions, and the stay-rod s, for holding the two parts A and B firmly in the different positions that they may be placed in, substantially as shown and described, for the purpose set forth.
