GRAIN-CRADLE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 237,580, dated February 8, 1881. Application filed August 30, 1880. (Model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MATTHIAS NAUMIER, of Port Byron, in the county of Cayuga and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Grain-0radles, of .which the following is a specification.

Figure 1 is a perspective View of the improvement. Fig. 2 is a plan view. Fig. 3 is a section taken through the line :20 00, Fig. 1.

Fig. 4 is a section taken through the line y 3 Figs. 1 and 2.

This invention relates to grain-cradles made with bent and straight snaths, and has for its object to make the cradles stronger and more easily adjusted than cradles made in the ordinary manner.

A represents the snath, which is steamed and bent in the ordinary manner.

B is the nib or handle, which is secured to the snath A by an eyebolt, C.

To the upper side of the lower end or heel of the snath A is secured the lower end of the post I), to which the rear ends of the fingers E are attached.

F is a brace, the lower end of which is secured to the lower part or heel of the snath A a little above the post D. The upper end of the brace F is secured to the snath A a little above the nib B. The brace F strength- 0 ens the snath A and prevents its bend from straightening.

G are the finger-braces, and H is the postbrace. The inner end of the braces G H are inserted in the eyes of eyebolts I, which pass 3 5 through the brace F, so that the said braces G H can be clamped against the brace F by tightening the nuts of the eyebolts I, and can be adjusted by loosening the said nuts. By this construction the lower part of the snath is left at its full strength, it not being neces- 4o sary to bore holes through it to receive the braces G H, and the outer surface of the said lower part of the snath is left smooth, there being no projecting ends of braces to tear the clothes or injure the person of the cradler. 5

The outer ends of the finger-braces G have books formed upon them, which hook into the eyes of the eyebolts J. In the eyebolts J is formed a second set of eyes, at right angles with the fingers, through which is passed a brace or connecting-bar,K, which bar is drawn against the inner or outer side of the fingers, to hold the said fingers in their proper relative positions by tightening the nuts upon the forward ends of the eyebolts J.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a cradle, the combination, with the snath A, of the brace F, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby the snath is kept in shape and strengthened, as set forth.

2. In a cradle, the braces G H, bolted to an inner brace or chord, F, of a curved snath, as shown and described.
