REIN GUIDE.
No. 361,472. Patented Apr 19, 1887.
- I I avwamtoz my; am,
N. PETERS. Phulo-Likhograpfwr. Washington D. C.
UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFIcE.
SETH \VARD, OF PRINCETON, INDIANA.
RElN-GUIDE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 361,472, dated April 19, 1887.
Application filed January 24, 1887. Serial No. 225.339. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SETH WARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Princetomin the county of Gibson and Stateof Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Im- 1 provements in Rein-Guides, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in rein-guides, it being particularly designed to be placed upon the hip-straps of the harness.
This-invention relates to an improvement in rein-guides, which will be fully understood from the following description and claim when taken in connection with the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved device, showing the driving-rein in broken lines, and Fig. 2 a side elevation of the same, showing the strap to which it is attached in broken lines.
Referring to these drawings by letter, A A designate two buckle-frames, curved as shown in the drawings, which are connected together U by the arch B, through which the driving-rein passes, and which is formed integral with the buckle-frames. The said frames are constructed with transverse end bars, I) b, and transverse rounded bars a a.
One of the crossbars of the buckle-frames is provided with a spur or teat, O, for adjusting and holding the device upon the strap to which it may be applied, the strap being perforated for the passage of the spur; also connecting the two buckle-frames; and below the arch B is a friction-bar, D, the upper surface of which may be rounded, and which not only serves to support the rein and keep it from The device is applied to a hip or other strap Y by looping the same around the cross-bars of the buckle-frames, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2 of the drawings, the strap passing across from one frame to the other under the connecting-bar D, over the cross-bars a a, and under the cross-bars b 1).
Instead of placing the device upon ahipstrap, as I now prefer, it is evident thatI may apply it to any part of the harness, if Ishould so desire, without in the least departing from my invention.
I am aware that it is not new in rein-guides to employ an arch or loop having short loops and a connecting-bar, and therefore I disclaim such devices, broadly.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The within-described improved article of manufacture, consisting of the. rectangular curved-frames A A, each provided with a crossbar, and one bar having a pin, O, the bar D, and the arch B, all formed of one piece of metal, the end bars, I) I), being under beveled, all as shown and described.
In testimony whereofI affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SETH W'ARD.
