MORDIOA M. STEWART, OF MAYFIELD, KENTUCKY.
IMPROVEMENT IN HARNESS-BUCKLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,824, dated July 9, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MORDICA M. STEWART, of Mayfield, in the county of Graves and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and valua- Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a plan View, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section, of my invention.
This invention has relation to a harnessbuchre; and consists in the arrangement of cross -bars and tongues, as hereinafter described, the object being to provide for the attachment of straps without sewing or rivets.
The buckle has a rectangular frame, A, and five cross-bars, including the ends of the frame. a b c d 6 represent said cross-bars. To the bars I) d are hinged or pivoted the tongues B D, their points projecting over the tops of the bars a c. E F represent two straps.
The strap F is passed up through space between bars a b and down through space between bars I) o. The tongue B is put through a suitable hole in the strap. The strap will retain this position, and cannot be pulled out of place. One end of the strap F- is passed up between bars a d, then over the tongue D, the same passing through it, and finally down between bars 01 and e. The other part of the strap F is put through space between bars a d, thence over tongue D which may be put through asuitable hole or not, as desired, and finally down and under the bar 6. The end bars are beveled on their under sides to correspond to the angles of the straps.
The buckleframe, it will be seen,is crossed, .so that said end bars shall press against and aid in holding the straps secure.
The straps may be arranged in other ways with this buckle and still be held in place without stitching or rivets.
What I claimas my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The improved harness-buckle, consisting of the curved frame A, having the cross-bars a b c d e and tongues B D, all constructed extending in the same direction, and arranged substantially as specified.
In testimonythat I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
' MORDIOA M. STEWART.
