" SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 3640.979, dated April 12, 1887.
Application filed July 8, 1886. Serial No. 207,416. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE WHITE, of the city of St. Louis, inthe State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Overalls, &c., of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, and in which- The drawing is a perspective view of the upper part of a pair of overalls oripantaloons with my improvement applied thereto. l
In another application, No. 207,447, of even date herewith, I have shown, described, and claimed overalls and pantaloons having a waistband formed with openings at the sides, each opening being provided with loops, in combination with springs having eyes,by which the waistband is connected together.
In this application I show, describe, and claim overalls and pantaloons having awaistband formed with openings at the sides, each opening being provided With springs having clips and rivets, by which the waistband is connected together.
I am aware that it has been customary to insert a gore of elastic material at the back and side seams of pantaloons and overalls. Ooiledmetal springs have also been used in the same The invention will be described as applied to overalls, but of course it is also applicable to pant-aloons.
The overalls may be constructed of any suitable fabric, A. B is the back seam; O C, the side seamsfand D the iy. in front of the garment.
E E are gores of elastic cloth inserted in openings at the tops of the side seams. Above the elastic gores are metal springs composed of coils F, whose ends are secured to clips G, whose lips embrace the ends of the waistband H, which are secured in the clips by rivets I.
As the springs in conjunction with the clips are used to sustain the garment, it is obvious that the springs should be at. the hips, so that the garment may accommodate itself to the person.
I claim as my invention- Overalls and pantaloons having a waistband formed with openings at the sides, each opening being provided with springs having clips and rivets by which the waistband is cons neet-ed together, substantially as described.
