J. A. HANKINS. ADJUSTABLE STOVE TRUGK.
Patented Mar. 29, 1887.
I l l l WITNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN A. HANKINS, OF BURNSIDE, ILLINOIS.
ADJUSTABLE STOVE-TRUCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent. No, 360,295, dated March 29, 887.
Application filed April 1886.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN A. HANKINS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Burnside, in the county of Hancock and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Stove-Trucks; and I do hereby declarethe following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in stove-trucks, the object of the same being to provide a combined stove truck and board which can be adjusted to suit stoves of different sizes, and the stove, when mounted thereon, may be moved on said truck.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate my invention, Figure l is a side view of a stove-truck constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view, and Figs-3 and 4 are detail perspective Views.
A and A refer to the base-plates, which consist of segmental side pieces, a a, which are provided with inwardly-projecting arms B, the terminal portions of which are bent downwardly, as shown at b, said depending portions having screw-threaded perforations, through which passes an adjusting-screw, O, which is provided on each side of its center with right and left hand screw-threads. The outer sides of the segmental plates A and A are provided with downwardly-projecting portions 0 c, which are provided under said segmental portions with openings (1, for the purposes hereinafter set forth. Opposite these downwardly-projecting portions 0 c the plates A and A are provided with screw-threaded openings, through which pass bolts 6, the heads of said bolts being located at the under side of the plates.
E refers to segmental plates which bear upon stove-bottom, said plates being held in position above the segmental plates A and A by means of the bolts 6, the upper ends of said bolts lying within recesses f f, formed in Serial X0. 199,809. (No model.)
the under side of said plates E, as is fully shown in Fig. 4. The plates A and A may be expanded or contracted, so as to accommo date different sizes of stoves, by turning the screw-threaded bar 0.
F refers to metallic blocks, which are provided with projecting portions 9, which enter the perforations (Z in the plates A and A, where they are secured by means of suitable pins. The under side of said blocks have secured thereto caster-wheels G.
If the floor upon which the stove-truck rests should be uneven, the plates E may be adjusted by turning the bolts 6, so as to correct such inequalities and maintain the stove in a horizontal position.
By means of the device hereinbefore described a stove, when mounted upon the truck, can be readily moved from place to place, and said truck can be expanded or contracted, so as to accommodate itself to stoves of different sizes, andthe plates E, which are employed in connection therewith, form a large bearing-surfacc,upon which the bottom of the stove may rest.
Iain aware that prior to my invention it has been proposed to provide a stove-truck the end pieces of which would be adjustable with respect to each other, said end pieces having caster-wheels attached thereto, and I therefore do not claim such construction as my invention, said truck being designed especially for moving stoves in warehouses, whereas my invention differs from the same in being intended for domestic use and to be used permanently upon a stove.
I claim 1. In a stove-truck, the combination of the adjustable segmental end pieces provided adjacent to their outer peripheries with depending ears for attaching casters thereto, and with inwardly-projecting arms having depending terminal portions, an adjustingrod passing through said terminal portions, bolts (2, passing through the segmental plates, and plates E, having recesses f for receiving the bolts 6, substantially as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a stove-truck, an adjustable frame comprising two segmental sections, casters the segmental plates E, substantially as shown,
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in 10 presence of two Witnesses.
.JOHN A. HANKIN S.
W'itnesses:
' I ALFRED PETTIT,
MARY PETTIT,
and for the purpose set forth.
