This invention relates to improvements in and relating to scaffolding.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION According to the invention there is provided a scaffold element comprising a sleeve adapted to be mounted on a scaffold standard, the sleeve having at least two locating brackets for locating linear scaffold members on the sleeve.
Further according to the invention there is provided a scaffold element comprising a sleeve adapted to be mounted on a scaffold standard, the sleeve having at least two locating brackets, at different elevations, for locating scaffold members on the sleeve. 4 j l The sleeve may be adapted to be mounted on a scaffold standard to be displaceable along the length of the standard.
, The locating brackets may be spaced about the periphery of the sleeve.
Each bracket may be U-shaped .l-shaped, shaped to define a square, rectangular or circular locating opening, or the like. Thus, .the brackets can therefore readily locate any suitable scaffold members such as for example putlogs, ledgers, crossbars,-orthe like, whether these are of circular, square rectangular, or the like crosssection.
. The sleeve may have locating means adapted to cooperate with locking means for locking the sleeve in position on a scaffold standard. The locating means may be in the form of one or more holes in the sleeve, adapted to receive the locking cooperate with locking means forlocking the scaffold element in position on the standard. The locating means may be a plurality of longitudinally spaced holes provided in the standard,
. each one of these being adapted to receive the locking means in the form of a locking pin. Thus any one of the longitudinally spaced holes can bebrought into register with a hole provided in the sleeve of the scaffold.element,-whereby the scaffold element can be fixed at a desired height by means of the locking p The standard may conveniently be tubular. It may thus be of high tensile scaffolding tubing, or the like.
This provides the advantage that the sleeve can readily be slid along the standard, and that conventional scaffold tube fittings can readily be used therewith if desired. Thus, for example, fittings such as adjustable screws jacks, crossbars, coupling elements, or the like can readily be used.
Still further according to the invention there is provided a scaffold trestle comprising a base portion and a scaffold stan- .dard as described.
The standard may be adjustably connected to the base portion to allow for adjustment of the height of the standard. Thus the base portion may include a collarfor slidably receiving the standard, the standard having longitudinally spaced holes any one of which can bebrought into register with a hole provided in the collar, whereby the standard can be fixed at a desired height by means of a locking pin. The base portion of the trestle maybe integral with the standard or may be removably connected thereto.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OE THE DRAWING The invention is now described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows a side elevation of a scaffold trestle in accordance to the invention.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring to the drawing, reference numeral 10 generally indicates a scaffold trestle comprising a base portion 12 having a standard 14 mounted thereon, and a scaffold element 16 slidably mounted on the standard 14.
Locating means is provided to locate the standard 14 on the base portion 12 and to locate the scaffold element 16 on the standard 14. The locating means is in the form of longitudinally spaced holes 18 provided in the standard 14, a hole 20 provided in the base portion 12 and longitudinally spaced holes 22 provided in the scaffold element 16. Locking means in the form of a locking pin 24 is provided to lock the standard 14 in position on the base portion 12. The locking pin 24 is adapted to pass through the hole 20 in the base portion and through one of the holes 18 in the standard. Thus, one of the holes 18 can be brought into register with the hole 20, and the locking pin 24 can be inserted through the corresponding holes. Further locking means in the form of a locking pin 26 is provided to lock the scaffold element 16 in position on the standard 14. The locking pin 26 is adapted to pass through any of the holes 18 and through any of the holes 22. Thus, one of the holes 22 can be brought into register with one of the holes 18, and the locking pin 26 can be inserted through the corresponding holes.
The scaffold element 16 includes a sleeve 28 slidably mounted on the standard 14. The locking pin 26 is secured to the sleeve 28 by means of a chain 30. Two pairs of locating brackets 32 are secured on opposed sides to the sleeve 28. Each pair of brackets 32 includes one bracket 34 being of U- shape and one bracket 36 being of J-shape, the bracket 34 being located above the bracket 36 to define a rectangular opening 38.
The standard 14 is in the form of a tube 40, adapted. to receive the sleeve 28 of the scafiold element 16. A stopping pin 42 is secured to the end of the tube 40 to prevent the scaffold element 16 from slipping from the standard 14.
The base portion 12 includes three radially downwardly ex tending legs 46. It further includes a collar 44 having secured thereto one end of each of the legs 46. The collar 44 is adapted to receive the tube 40 slidably to allow one of the holes 18 to be brought into register with the hole 20 provided in the collar 44. The locking pin 24 is secured to the collar by means of a chain 50.
In use, the trestle 10 is supported on a surface by means of the legs 46. The element 16 is slided along the tube 40 to a desired position, and is locked in position by bringing one of the holes 22 into register with one of the holes 18, and by inserting the locking pin 26 through the corresponding holes. The elevation of the scaffold element 16 can further be adjusted by sliding the tube 40 through the collar 44 to a desired height. The tube 40 is then locked in position by bringing one of the holes 18 into register with the hole 20 and by inserting the locking pin 24 through the corresponding holes. This allows for a wide range of adjustment of the height of the scaffold element 16. One or more of the brackets 34 and/or 36 can be used for locating scaffold members such as putlogs, ledgers, crossbars, or the like.
I claim:
1. A scaffold trestle comprising a base portion having a scaffold standard adjustably mounted thereon, with the scaffold standard having a scaffold element adjustably mounted thereon, the scaffold element comprising a sleeve having at least one pair of locating brackets situated at different elevations one above the other for locating linear scaffold members on the sleeve and wherein a first one of said pair of brackets differs in size and shape from a second one of said pair of brackets.
4. A trestle according to claim 1, in which the base portion has a locating hole and in which the standard has a plurality of holes at spaced intervals along its length, with a hole in the standard being adapted to be brought into register with the locating hole to lock the standard in position on the base portion by means of a locking pin.
5. A trestle according to claim 1, in which the standard is tubular.

Claims (5)

1. A scaffold trestle comprising a base portion having a scaffold standard adjustably mounted thereon, with the scaffold standard having a scaffold element adjustably mounted thereon, the scaffold element comprising a sleeve having at least one pair of locating brackets situated at different elevations one above the other for locating linear scaffold members on the sleeve and wherein a first one of said pair of brackets differs in size and shape from a second one of said pair of brackets.
2. A trestle according to claim 1 wherein said sleeve has a second pair of locating brackets spaced about the periphery of the sleeve from the first pair of brackets and having a first and second bracket corresponding in elevation, size and shape with the respective first one and second one of the first pair of brackets.
3. A trestle according to claim 1, in which the sleeve has locating means adapted to cooperate with locking means for locking the sleeve in position on the standard.
4. A trestle according to claim 1, in which the base portion has a locating hole and in which the standard has a plurality of holes at spaced intervals along its length, with a hole in the standard being adapted to be brought into register with the locating hole to lock the standard in position on the base portion by means of a locking pin.
5. A trestle according to claim 1, in which the standard is tubular.
