J. H. SCHOONMAKER.
DEVICE FOR EXHIBITING MERCHANDISE.
No. 360,114. Patented Mar. 29, 1887.
9 @mw, W flzm UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB H. SCHOONMAKER, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
DEVICE FOR EXHIBITING MERCHANDISE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 360,114, dated March 29,1887.
Application filed May 4, 1886. Serial No. 201,051. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AOOB H. SCHOONMAKER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Exhibiting Merchandise, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates especially to devices employed for exhibiting hosiery, suspenders, &c., and has for its object the provision of an exhibitor, cheap and simple to construct, whereby the merchandise may be fully displayed, securely held in place, and easily detached from the exhibiting-frame.
To attain the desired end my invention consists, essentially, in a central hub provided with a suspending-eye. Secured to said hub are radiating arms united to a circumferential ring and terminatingin hooks. Located upon the above-mentioned ring between the arms are a series of clasping devices adapted and arranged to engage with and hold in place the articles to be exhibited, all of which will be hereinafter first fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of my device, and Fig. 2 is aside elevationthereof.
Like letters of reference, wherever they.oc cur, indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
A is a central hub, made of any approved material and provided with an eye, B, to which a suspendingcord, O, is secured. Radiating from hub A are arms D, bending over a hoop, E, and terminating in hooks F.
G are wire yokes located between the radial arms, said yokes having eyes at each extremity encircling the hoop E. \Vhen thrown inward, a wide space is opened between the hoop and the body of the yoke, wherein hosiery, &c., may be inserted. Then by turning the yoke outward the center of it presses against the hoop, firmly holding the goodsin place. The two different positions of the body of the yoke are fully illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The articles held by the yokes may be readily placed in the exhibitor or removed therefrom, and as the entire device is suspended it may be quickly turned around to reach orexamine any article without change of position of the clerk or examiner, and by suitable arrangement of the support the device may be elevated or depressed at will. The hooks F are our ployed for supporting small articles, such as suspenders, 850.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to se cure by Letters Patent, is-
A device for exhibiting merchandise, consisting of asuspended ring or hoop, 1 in combination with the yokes G, arranged to grip the merchandise to be exhibited between a yoke and the hoop E when the yokes are turned outward, substantially as shown and described.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 3d day of May, A. D. 1886.
