BAG-CATCH.
SPECIFICATION Aforming part of Letters Patent No. 30,l13, dated March 29, 1887.
Application filed Janunry17,1887. Serial No. 224,553. (No model.)
drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings,Fig ure l is a plan or top viewof the closed framesections of a bag to which the improved catches are attached. Figs. 2 and 3 are side elevations of portions of the frame sections and the catches attached thereto in a locked and unlocked position, respectively. Fig. 4 is a transverse section of Fig. 2 through a". Fig. 5 is a similar View taken through x on Fig. 3. Figs. 6 and 7 are sectional views taken through y and 1', Figs. 4. and 5, respectively.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each ofthe views.
The catch illustrated in the above-described views consists of a spring-actuated catchingbar, a, having a rounded head, a', a shoulder, ai, a barbed or conical end, a, above which is an annular recess, a5, and a spring detaining or catching plate, b, having a projecting portion, b', in which is an opening, ligadapted to receive the barbed end of the catching-bar. Said catching-bar and detaining-plate are pro. vided with `or arranged in suitable casings that for the catchingbar consisting of an outer casing, c, and a perforated plate, c, arranged between the casing and the framesection d, the perforation in said plate lying over a corresponding perforation, d', in the said framesection, and through both of said perforations the catching-plate extends, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. rIlhe casing c and plate c may be secured to the frame-section in any suitable manner. Between the shoulder at and vthe plate c is arranged a spiral spring, a, which forces the catching-bar upward when released by the dctaining-plate b, as indicated in Figs. 3 and 5, a pin, ci, limiting the upward movenient thereof.
The casing e, in which the detaining-plateis arranged, is secured to the side of the framesection f, the detainiug-plate or the portion b thereof projecting from said frame-section toward the opposite section, d, and directly beneath the end ofthe catching-bar, as indicated in Figs. 4 and 5. To permit this projection of the portion b the frame-sectionf is cut away atf, and through the opening thus made the said portion of the detainingplate extends, as shown. The normal position of the detainingplate is illustrated in Figs. 4 and 6, being such that as the catchingbar is depressed the barbed end thereof docs not pass through the opening b2, but strikes the edgebu thereof, and as the bar continues to descend, the inclined sides of the barbed end force the detaining plate toward the section d of the frame until the barbed end passes through the opening b2, upon which the saiddetainingplate springs back into the recess a5, as indicated in Figs. 4 and 5,and thus prevents the upward movement of the locking-bar. To release the said bar, the plate b is pressed toward the opposite frame-section, d, by the finger-piece b", which projects out through the casing c until the opening b2 in said plate b will permit the end ofthe catching-bar to lift therefrom, as in Figs. 3 and 6. rIhe detaining-plate is secured to the casing e at the end of the spring portion b5, illustrated in Figs. (l and 7.
It' desirable, the plate c may be dispensed with and the spring et rest directly upon the top of the frame-section d,- also, instead of reeessing the catching-bar at ai, the bar througlr out its entire length may be reduced in diameter to the thickness thereof at said recess.
Having thus described our invention, what .we claim isl. In a bag-catch, the`con'1bination of a spring-actuated catching-bar provided with an inclined or barb-shaped catching-end, a casing in which said catching-bar is arranged, secured to the frame-section d, said fraxnesection d, a perforated yielding catching-plate, b, projecting from the framesectionf underneath the barbed end of said catching-bar, said frame-section f, and a casing in which said yielding plate is arranged, attached to said frame-section f, for the purposes set forth.
2. In a bag-catch, the combination of the perforated frame-section d, a casing secured to 'tached to said frame-section f, and to which said catching-piateis secured, for the purposes set forth.
3. In a bag-catch, the combination of the perforated frame-section d, a casing secured to said framesection, a catehingbar, a, having a finger-piece, a', a barbed end, a, recess a5, a shoulder, a, and pin ai, arranged in said easing and moving through the perforation in the frame-section d, a spiral spring arranged around said bar, the perforated frame-section f, an automatically-yielding catching-plate, b, having the projecting portion b, with an opening, b2, therein, spring portion b5, and afmgerpiece, b4, projecting through the perforation in the frame-section f underneath the barbed end of the catching-bar, and a casing, e, for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that we claim the invention set forth above We have hereunto set our hands this 12th day of January, 1887.
