Abstract

The deformable electrical connector is made in part of a material which has the property which permits outwardly directed deformation of the connector without failure of the connector while also maintaining the structural stability of the connector during deformation. The connector comprises a sleeve made of deformable material and surrounded by an outer shell of higher tensile strength. The electrical connection is formed by pushing the connector onto a lead and post so that the lead initially penetrates the deformable sleeve of the connector and then, when the deformable sleeve develops the strength of the lead, flattens so as to completely fill the space between the connector and post.

Claims (4)

1. An electrical connection comprising: a conductor post; a connector surrounding said post, said connector including a radially deformable sleeve in contiguous relation to said post; a shell at the exterior of said sleeve, said shell being contiguous to said sleeve and being of higher tensile strength than said sleeve to maintain the unity of said sleeve during radial deformation; and a lead secured in flattened condition between said sleeve and post, said sleeve closely conforming to said post and said flattened lead.
2. An electrical connection as set forth in claim 1 wherein said post is harder than said sleeve and said lead is initially harder than said sleeve prior to flattening of said lead between said post and sleeve.
3. An electrical connection as set forth in claim 1 wherein said post and said lead completely fill the occupied space within said connector to form a gastight connection.
4. An electrical connection as set forth in claim 1 wherein said sleeve is of a material having the property of being deformable radially outwardly thereof without failure in tension while maintaining a degree of stability to retain the structure of said sleeve.
