Definitions

  • a coke oven pusher machine has a supporting arm eX- tending therefrom and movable longitudinally toward and away from the coke oven chamber.
  • a connecting member is pivotally secured to the end of the supporting arm and has door jamb cleaning apparatus and door handling apparatus secured thereto in angular spaced relation to each other.
  • a suitable drive means ⁇ is provided to pivot the connecting member relative to the end of the supporting arm to position either the door jamb cleaning apparatus or the door handling apparatus in operative position with the coke oven door jamb.
  • This invention relates to a combined coke oven door jamb cleaning apparatus and door handling apparatus and more particularly to a support member that pivotally supports both the door jamb cleaning apparatus and the door handling apparatus from a common supporting arm.
  • a pusher machine includes separate apparatus to remove and support the coke oven door, push the charge of coke and level a new charge of coal to be coked. Separate apparatus is provided to clean the door jamb before the door is replaced. When space conditions between the coke oven battery and the front portion of the retracted pushing ram permit, the door jamb cleaning apparatus is moved into position between the coke oven battery and the coke pusher machine without moving the pusher machine.
  • the pusher machine must be moved away from the coke oven chamber after the pushing operation to provide room for positioning the door jamb cleaning lapparatus in operative position. This increases .the total operating time required to push the charge of coke, clean the door jamb and recharge the oven with coal to be coked.
  • the hereinafter described invention relates to a combined door jamb cleaning apparatus and door handling apparatus that are angularly secured to a common connecting member.
  • the connecting member is pivotally secured to a support arm that is movable longitudinally relative to the coke oven chamber.
  • the door jamb cleaning apparatus is positioned at an angle of about to the door handling apparatus and the connecting member is pivotally secured to the support arm.
  • the support arm is retracted away from the coke oven chamber and the connecting member is pivoted about a vertical pivot axis to move the door handling apparatus into aligned relation with the coke oven chamber.
  • the support arm is then advanced toward the coke oven chamber and the door is positioned in the door jamb and secured therein.
  • the door jamb cleaning apparatus cleans the door jamb and the door is repositioned in the door jamb without moving the coke pusher machine. It is, therefore, no longer necessary to move the coke pusher machine during the cleaning of the door jamb and the replacing of the coke oven door.
  • 4the principal object of this invention is to provide apparatus for cleaning the coke oven door jamb and replacing the coke oven door without moving the pusher machine.
  • Another object of this invention is to provide a coke pusher machine with apparatus for angularly connecting the door jamb cleaning apparatus and the door handling apparatus and pivotally securing the connected apparatus to a longitudinally movable supporting arm tha-t forms a part of the pushing machine.
  • FIG. l is a fragmentary schema-tic plan view of the machine side of a horizontal coke oven battery, partially in section, with the pusher machine positioned adjacent thereto and illustrating the door jamb cleaning apparatus in operative position to clean the door jamb.
  • FIG. 2 is a view similar to FIG. l illustrating the door handling apparatus in position to replace the coke oven door.
  • a fragmentary portion of the pusher side of a coke oven is generally designated by the numeral and includes a plurality of horizontal coking chambers 12 with heating walls 14 therebetween.
  • Buckstays 16 extend vertically on opposite sides of the coke oven chambers 12 along the pusher side wall.
  • Coke oven doors designated by the numeral 18 are positioned in abutting relation with rectangular door jambs 20 to seal the coke oven chambers 12 during the coking operation.
  • a pusher machine generally designated by the numeral 22 is mounted on rails 24 and is operable to move along the machine side of the coke oven 10.
  • the pusher machine 22 includes a leveling bar 26, a pusher ram 28 and a support member 30 .to -which a connecting member 32 is pivotally secured.
  • the connecting member 32 has a door jamb cleaning device 34 and a door handling device 36 secured thereto.
  • the door jamb cleaning device may be of conventional construction similar to that illus- -trated in U.S. Pat. 2,391,214 or U.S. Pat. 3,119,135.
  • the door handling apparatus 36 includes a door lifting head 38 which is operable to be connected to the coke oven door 18 and unlatch and remove the door from the door jamb 20.
  • the door handling apparatus 36 secured to the connecting member 32 may also be of conventional construction, as for example, the door handling devicex illustrated in US. Pat. 2,391,214.
  • the connecting member 32 is pivotally secured to the support member 30- about a vertical pivot pin 40.
  • Suitable drive means is provided to pivot the connecting member 32 about the axis of pivot pin 40 to thereby position either the door jamb cleaning device 34 or the door handling device 36 in operative aligned relation with the coke oven chamber 12.
  • the support member 30 has a trolley 42 with trolley wheels 44 suitabily supported on rails 46 on the pusher machine 22.
  • Other suitable drive means are provided to reciprocate and move the support member 30 toward and away from the coke oven chambers 12 by means of the trolley 42.
  • the pusher machine 22 After pushing the coke from the coke oven chamber 12 by the pusher ram 28, the pusher machine 22 is moved to the position illustrated in FIG. 1, opposite the empty coking chamber 12. The pusher machine 22 is moved along the rails 24 until the axis of the support member 30 is aligned with the axis of the empty coking chamber 12. The supporting member 30 is in a retracted position where both the door'jamb cleaning device 34 and the door handling device 36 ⁇ are spaced rearwardly from the buckstays 16. When the support member 30 is aligned with the coke oven chamber 12, a drive means is actuated to rotate the connecting member 32 about the axis of pivot pin 40 to align the door jamb cleaning device 34 with the coke oven chamber 12 as is illustrated in FIG. 1.
  • the support member 30 is then moved toward the coke oven chamber 12 until the door jamb cleaning device is in operative position as illustrated in FIG. 1 to remove the carbonaceous residue from the door jamb 20.
  • the support member 30 is retracted as is illustrated in FIG. 2 and the connecting member 32 rotated about the pivot pin 40 to align the door handling device 36 with the coke oven chamber 12.
  • the support member 30 is then advanced along the rails 46 to bring the door 18 into abutting relation with the door jamb 20 and the door is then locked in position.
  • a coke oven pusher machine for use With a coke oven battery having a plurality of horizontal coke oven chambers comprising,
  • a pusher ram mounted on said machine for reciprocal movement toward and away from said coke oven chambers, said pusher ram arranged to push the charge of coke from said coke oven chambers,
  • a leveling bar positioned on said machine in spaced parallel relation to said pusher ram and mounted for reciprocal movement toward and away from said coke oven chambers, said leveling bar arranged to level the charge of coal to be coked in said coke oven chambers,
  • a door jamb cleaning device operable to remove the carbonaceous residue from the coke oven door jamb, said door jamb cleaning device secured to one arm member of said connecting member,
  • a door handling device operable to remove a coke oven door from a coke oven chamber door jamb, support said door While the coke charge is pushed from the coke oven chamber and reposition the door in the coke oven chamber dooi jamb, said door handling device secured to the other arm member of said connecting member in spaced relation to said door jamb cleaning device,
  • said connecting member operable to move relative to said support member and position either said door jamb cleaning device or said door handling device in operative position adjacent a coke oven chamber door jamb so that the door cleaning operation and the repositioning of the coke oven door may be accomplished without moving said pusher machine.
  • said connecting member is pivotally secured to the end portion of said support member and said connecting member pivots about a pivot axis to position either said door jamb cleaning device or said door handling device adjacent a coke oven chamber door jamb.
