IMPROVED SPRING-BACK CHAIR.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 35,761, dated July 1, i862.

The nature of my invention consists in the.
application of one or more springs, adjustable to the back of a chair, reaching from the lower part of the chair upon which the seat rests to the upper portion of the chairvback against which the body leans, which, in connection with ajoint in the chair-back, allows the same to yield tothe pressure of the body leaning against it, and to resume its .natural position when the pressure is withdrawn,"rendering' the chair-back flexible and adding to the coiniort and ease Vof a sitting posture therein.
To enable others to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its con'- struetion and operation.
Upon the back ofthe two legs or ribs fornr ing the frame of the chair back I attach springs fitted to the form of said ribs, and being generally of the samewidth as the thickness of said ribs or legs, and being of a suflicient thickness to give the proper iiexibility and of a length sufiicient to fasten the same firmly into said ribs or legs above and below the joint and insnre its stability.
In the accompanying drawings (marked C) is shown an end View of ebair,sh0wing a front view of said springs, their position, and the manner of fastening the saine, which is to be by means oi' screws, bolts, or clamps. Figure A shows a side View of chair and springs at'- tached, showing the ehairback in its natural position. iVhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, lis- The use of lint springs to the back of chairs when said springs act in the back above the seat over ajoint or joints ofthe chair-frame, substantially as and for the purpose described.
