G. KELLY. WIRE LATHING ATTACHMENT.
No. 357.605. Patented Feb.. l5., 1887.
INVENTDFQZl N. PETERS. PiwwLthngmpr. washington, llcA PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE KELLY, OE CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
WI RE-'LATHING ATTACH IVI ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 357,605, dated February 15, 1887.
Application filed J' une 1, 1856.
To all whom it may concern:
`Be it known that I, GEORGE KELLY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain vnew and useful Improvements in Wire-Lathing Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specication, and in which- Figure 1 is a detail section of a plastered wall complete, showing themode of application of my improvement; and Fig. 2, a detail section of my improved attachingblock slightly modifiedr The present invention relates to lathing composed of wire fabric secured to fire-proof walls, to form a lathing-surface for plastering purposes; and the object of my improvement is to provide a simple, cheap, and-convenient means to attain a ready, rapid, and durable attachment of the Wire lathing to such class of walls, partitions, &c.
To enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to more fully describe its construction and mode of application and use.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a portion of the brick or tile wall, partition, or other body; B, the Wire-cloth lathing; O, the body of plastering, and D my improved attaching-blocks, which are formed preferably of metal, with a perforation, d, for the passage of the attaching-nail E, which is driven through the block into a seam between the partition bricks or tiles to attach said block firmly to the wall, &c., and a perforation or recess, d, to receive the attaching nail, spike, or bolt F, that secures in turn the wire lathing to said block.
The perforation or recess d may be screw- Serial No. 203.842. (No model.)
threaded to better hold the bolt F, if desired, and as indicated in Eig. l; yet in most instances it is preferable to provide it with Aa bushing, f, of wood or other analogous material, into which the point of the wire-lathingattaching nail is driven, as indicated in Fig. 2.
While I prefer to form my improved attaching-blocks of cast metal, yet any other suitable material may be employed instead without departing from the spirit of my invention.
WVith my improvement, in addition to fnrnishing a cheap and convenient means for attaching the wire lathing to brick or tile partitions, 8vo., a deadenin'g-spac'e is also obtained between the wall, &c.,'and the body of plastering, to prevent the transmission of heat, cold, or sound in a very-perfect and eilicient manner.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The combination, with the Wall A and wire lathing B, of the attaching-block D, having perforations and recesses d d, and means of attachment to the wall and metallic lathing, essentially as set forth.
2. As an improved article of manufacture, an attaching-block for wire lathing, having perforation d, for the passage of nail to attach the block to a wall, Src., and a recess, d, to receive the attaching nail, spike, or bolt of the Wire lathing, essentially as set forth.
3. As an improved article of manufacture, the attaching-block D, having a perforation, d, and a recess, d, provided with a bushing, f, of wood or like material, essentially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof Witness my hand this 29th day of May, 1886. GEORGE KELLY.
In presence of ROBERT BURNS, GEo. H. ARTHUR.
