UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CARL FRIEDRICH WILHELM DOEHRING, OF LEIPSIG, GERMANY.
FLUE-CLEANER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 357,309, dated February a, 188'?.
Application tiled January 8, 1886. Serial No. 157.968. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL FRIEDRICH WIL- HELM DOEHRING, of Leipsic, Germany, have invented a new and Improved Flue-Cleaner,
of which the following specification is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates' to an apparatus for extracting the soot from fines and stove-pipes by means of a device Which is connected with one end of the ilueandwhich exhausts theair and soot from the flues.
The invention consists in the details of construction hereinafter more fully pointed out and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a section of a building` the flue of vwhich is connected With nIy luecleaner. Fig. 2 is a detail horizontal section on line x Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an end view of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a section online T T, Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a section on line S S, Fig. 3. Fig. (i is a vertical central section of the flue-clcaneron lineUU, Fig. 8. Fig.'7 is a top view, parllyin section, of the flue-cleaner; and Fig. 8, an end View, partly in section, of the same.
The letter W represents a building having a smokestack, B, which contains the several nues B', as shown in Fig. 2. Each of these iues is connected with the stoves S' or open nre-places in one of the stories of the building by stove-pipes b. The iiues B' are connected at their bottoni to a funnel, E, and this funnel is connected with the flue-cleaner Aby ahose, E'. The communication betweeuiiues B' and funnel E may be shut off by slides or damper-plates D, located within the funnel E.
The due-cleaner A consists of a cylindrical body or shell, A', preferably mounted upon Wheels and connected with an air pump or pumps, H. These pumps are designed to extract the air from the shell A', s o that thelatter in turn extracts by suction the air and soot `from the lues B.
valve, G, which is closedwhile the air is extracted from the shell A', and is opened when the suction is to take place from the lue.
Within the shell A'there is contained'a newirefgauze drum, A", open 'at the front, and there having an annular ange, n, which connects it to the shell A'. This drum receives the soot from hoseE' and prevents it from clogging the mouth of the air-pump. The rear end of the drum A" is closed by a perforated head, a, attached to the movable cover m of the main with the cover m, is withdrawn to gain access to the interior of -the drum A".
I claim as my invention- The combination of shell A' with wire-gauze drum A", ila'nge n, pipe E', valve G, and airpump H, substantially as specilied.
In testimony' whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CARL FRIEDRICH WlLHELH DOEIIRING.
