United States Patent 3,572,350 HAIR CURLER PROTECTIVE DEVICE Gail A. Adams and Paul B. Adams, both of 316 Cornell, Grand Forks, N. Dak. 58201 Filed Jan. 6, 1969, Ser. No. 789,325 Int. Cl. A45d 2/02 US. Cl. 132-39 2 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention comprises a protective cushioning device for a hair curler, said device having a resilient C-shaped inner sleeve and a C-shaped spongeous outer sleeve attached thereto, said device being adapted to be slipped over the curler when the curler is wound onto a persons hair to provide a protective cushion between the operators head and the curler when the operators head is resting upon a pillow.
This invention relates to protective devices, more particularly the invention relates to hair curler protective devices.
It is an object of the invention to provide a novel protective cushioning device for hair curlers which provides a cushion between the hair curler and the head of the wearer.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a novel protective cushioning device for hair curlers which may be easily attached to the curler and readily detached therefrom and which provides a soft sponge cushion.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent as the description proceeds and when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing wherein.
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the curler protection cushioning invention illustrating curlers attached to the hair of the wearer with the invention operatively attached about the curler.
FIG. 2 is a breakaway perspective view of the hair curler and cushioning invention and illustrating the manner of wrapping the hair about the hair curler and the relationship of the cushion invention thereto.
FIG. 3 is a front elevational view illustrating the manner of attachment of the hair cushioning invention to the hair curler with the hair of the wearer illustrated in its novel wrapped around position on the curler.
FIG. 4 is a front elevational view of the cushioning invention shown in its novel attached position about the hair curler.
FIG. 5 is a side elevational view of the cushioning invention and hair curler.
FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view taken along line 6--6 of FIG. 4.
FIG. 7A is a front elevational view of the cushioning invention 'before attachment to the hair curler.
FIG. 7B is a front elevational view of the hair curler.
Briefly stated, the invention comprises a hair curler protective cushioning device for a hair curler having a C-shaped resilient inner sleeve and a C-shaped sponge rubber outer sleeve attached to said resilient inner sleeve, said C-shaped inner and outer sleeve having a slightly larger diameter than said hair curler whereby when the hair has been wound onto said curler said device may be expanded to fit over said hair curler and retract into a surrounding attached relation to said hair curler to provide a protective cushion between the wearer and the curler.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, in FIG. 1, the protective cushioning invention 20 is illustrated attached to the wearers head .The outer ends of the wearers hair 21' are wound about the curler 22, and the cushioning invention 20 is attached over the wound hair and curler 22.
ice
OPERATION The operation of the protective cushioning invention 20 is as follows: a woman who wishes to have her hair wound in curlers 22 and be able to sleep comfortably at night while the curlers 22 are in place will wind the outer ends 21' of her hair about the curler 22, as illustrated in FIG. 2, and will grasp the outer edges 26 and 26' of the inner sleeve 24 and expand the inner and outer sleeves 25 apart sufiiciently to allow the inner and outer sleeves to slip over the hair 21' and the curler 22, and thereafter will release the hands from the inner and outer sleeves to allow the inner and outer sleeves to spring back and contract about the hair 21 and curler to its position shown in FIG. 3, with the inner sleeve 24 frictionally engaging the spikes 23 to retain the protective cushioning invention 20 on the hair and curler.
The operator may then place the side 27 of her head against a pillow and the spongeous outer sleeve '25 and the hair portions 21" extending from between the inner and outer sleeves 24 and 25 will provide a soft cushion between the operators head and the pillow so that when her head is placed against a pillow the spongeous outer sleeve 25 and hair portion 21" will provide a comfortable soft cushioning effect and will prevent the spikes 23 from engaging or digging into her head. The sponge outer sleeve 25 nearly surrounds the hair curler so that when the hair curler rests against the side 31 of the womans scalp, as illustrated in FIG. 3, the edges 25' and 25 of the sponge sleeve will engage the scalp 31 of the operators head and provide a cushion and the hair portions 21" provide additional cushioning.
The sponge sleeve 25 and plastic inner sleeve 24 are cemented together with cement which has a certain amount of resiliency to allow the sleeve to flex.
Thus, it will be seen that a novel protective cushioning invention has been provided for hair curlers which engage the outside of the curler to provide protective cushioning so that the wearer of the curlers may sleep with comfort during the night with the curlers in place.
It will be obvious that various changes and departure may be made to the invention without departing from the spirit and scope thereof and accordingly it is not intended that the invention be limited to that specifically described in the specification or illustrated in the drawing but only as set forth in the appended claims wherein.
What is claimed is:
1. A hair curler cushioning device in combination with a hair curler, said hair curler comprising a cylindrical hollow sleeve, said cushioning device forming a C-shaped configuration having a resilient C-shaped plastic inner sheet and a C-shaped spongeous outer sheet surrounding said C-shaped plastic sheet and bonded thereto, said C-shaped cushioning device having a hollow sleeve like shape with an opening along its cylindrical surface extending into the hollow interior of said device and extending along its cylindrical surface parallel to the center axis of its cylindrical conformation from one end to the other end of the device to thereby form its C-shaped conformation, said cushioning device being adapted and having sufficient resiliency to be manually expanded along its opening to slip over said curler sleeve and retract about said curler sleeve with air for curling being wound on said curler sleeve and disposed therebetween, with said cushioning device being frictionally retained thereon and forming a protective cushion between the head of the person having its hair wound thereon and the curler.
2. A hair curler cushioning device in combination with a hair curler according to claim 1, wherein said curler sleeve has projecting prongs with said cushioning device 4 engaging said projecting prongs in surrounding relation for said frictional retainment thereon.
