Cl. 202l43 4 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A regenerative coke furnace having upper and lower located burning points with the heating flues being combined into groups and having regenerator compartments corresponding to the number of groups of heating flues, which are in connection via sole flues with regulating devices being arranged at the exterior side of the furnace for regulating the flowing mediae.
This invention relates to a regenerative coke furnace with upper and lower located burning points with heating flues combined in groups and regenerator compartments corresponding to the number of groups of heating flues, which are in connection via sole =flue compartments with regulating devices arranged at the exterior side of the furnace for closing off or regulating the flowing mediae such as air, poor gas, waste gas.
It is known from French Patent 1,345,946 to form the groups of heating flues of the heating walls of coke furnaces at the furnace port as twin groups and within the remaining space in groups of four. To each group its own regenerator compartments are correlated, the stressing of which by the flowing mediae can be adjusted independently from each other by the regulating devices provided at the machine-and coke side of the battery. It is possible thereby to adapt the heating of the heating walls over the entire length to heat requirements locally different at the furnace port because of the surface losses, being less dilferent between them, without any regulating work being necessary within the interior of the furnace.
It is furthermore known to provide within the heating flues an upper and a lower combustion surface or burning point in order to satisfy especially in furnaces with a chamber height above 5 m. the necessary heat requirements within the direction of height. In a further improvement for such furnaces it has been also suggested (DAS l 250 405) to add to the burning points located in different levels variable amounts of air and lean or poor gas for an adaptation of the heating in the direction of height of the heating flues. For this purpose, the cross section of the regenerator compartments and the related sole flues were adapted to the expected variable amounts of poor gas and air, which are to be fed to the upper and lower burning points. But, these measures permit only an approximate adjustment of the burning points to the actual heat requirements. For instance, it is not possible to vary the heat requirement at the upper burning points of one group of heating flues to the requirement of the upper burning points of another group of heating flues, but which requirement is absolutely necessary in order to obtain a uniform heating. In no case can the requirements be taken into consideration exactly enough which result from the operation of a coke furnace in the construction and arrangement of the cross sections for the flowing mediae because of insuflicient knowledge of the pressure and flowing conditions and quantitative relationship.
It is an object of the present invention to improve the 3,567,588 Patented Mar. 2, 1971 heating of coke furnaces adjustable from the exterior and having upper and lower located burning points with a relative minimum in expenditure in such a way, that beside the adjustable inflow of heating gas and air being separate for each different group of heating flues on the exterior of the furnace and the outflow of waste gases, additional the inflow and outflow of the upper and lower located burning points can be adjusted independently of each other.
This is essentially obtained according to the present invention in that the regenerator compartments are longitudinally separated by a wall, and the connecting flues for the upper located burning points are connected to one of the wall-separated portions or spaces and the connecting flues for the lower located burning points are connected to the other longitudinal part. Furthermore, to each regenerator space obtained by the longitudinal division within the regenerator compartment by the longitudinal division of the sole flues, an independently closable or controllable flue is correlated which is regulated by means of the regulating device (not shown). In this way the flowing mediae can be adjusted at the burning points of the heating walls so that also in extremely high furnaces a distribution of the temperature is obtained adapted to the actual heat requirement of the furnace chambers not only as heretofore in a horizontal, but also in a vertical furnace direction, since when the requirement arises it is not only possible to adjust within a group of heating flues the consumption of combustion mediae for the upper and lower burning points independently from each other, but also the consumption of mediae of the upper or lower burning points of groups of heating flues towards groups of heating flues. Thereby it is simplified for the operator after the furnace has been started to remove or cornpensate local overheatings or heat shadows occurring on the heating walls by a corresponding change of the mediae dosage by the regulating devices.
In regard to the arrangement and construction of the burning points of the regenerators as well as the connecting flues necessary between the two, according to the present invention each wall of the girder separating the heating flues is provided with an upper and a lower located burning point opening and these openings are connected by flues extending parallel in a sectional plane with different longitudinal parts of a compartment of the regenerators arranged below the heating walls, for lean or poor gas heating being effective in pair (air and lean gas in exchange with waste gas).
This has the advantages of a simple construction without complicated shaped brick, for instance for connecting flues, and besides, premature combustions which are caused by the transfer of variable combustion mediae from one flue to the other flue, are extensively avoided.
For the arrangement of the upper located burning point one would advantageously proceed in such a way that they are disposed diagonally relative to each other within a heating flue, but on the girders of the present invention they are located directly opposite. Thereby, the stacks which support the higher located openings can be combined in a simple and stable way with the girders for instance by placing two bricks provided with two passage cross sections onto each other within the girders or transverse walls. The inlets for the intense burning gas may be arranged thereby in the center of the heating flue between the stacks leading to the higher located openings.
With the above and other objects in view which will become apparent from the detailed description below, a preferred embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawings in which:
FIG. 1 shows a half of a symmetrical coke furnace in a longitudinal section along a heating wall and through the regenerators and lines;
FIG. 2 illustrates a partial cross section through the heating flues and regenerator furnace chambers and heating walls; and
FIG. 3 is a partial cross-sectional top view of two neighboring heating walls on a larger scale.
In the drawings reference numeral 1 is the furnace chamber and 2 are the heating walls, which are provided with heating fiues 4 divided by girders 3. Heating flues 4 are combined at the oven quoins or the head ends of the chambers 1 to form twin groups 5 and with the remaining ends combined to quadruple groups 6. First transverse division walls 3 constitute some of the girders, while second transverse division walls 3' serve also to group the flues into their predetermined groups of two 5, or groups of four 6, as indicated. Thereby in regard to the stress in the quadruple groups the two central and the two exterior heating flues are in conformity, while in the twin groups the two directly neighboring flues are conformed, whereby again the interior flue of the twin groups corresponds with the first flue of the neighboring quadruple group, so that when viewed from the ports of the furnace chambers 1 from the first heating flue there are always two burning up heating fiues located next to each other which alternate with two burning down heating flues or vice versa (FIG. 1).
For the addition of air and poor or lean gas respectively for the exit of Waste gas for the lean gas heating each heating flue is provided with a lower located burning point consisting of two bottom openings 7 and a higher located burning point consisting of two higher located openings 8 at the end of stacks 9, as well as a nozzle 10 through which in the case of intense gas heating intense gas enters, whereby then air escapes from all the openings 7 and 8 of the burning up heating flues.
As can be especially ascertained from FIG. 3, on each wall or opposite side of the transverse division wall or girder 3 of a heating flue 4, a lower located opening 7 and a higher located opening 8 are provided, the latter at the end of stacks 9, which are constructed in a doublesmokestack-like manner by means of bricks inserted into or built within the girders 3 in such a way that the upper and lower located openings of each heating flue 4 are standing diagonally towards each other. The intense or rich gas nozzle 10 is located in the center of the heating flue 4 between the stacks 9 for the upper located burning points.
Each pair of openings 7, 8 located at the girder wall is connected by a pair of conduits 11, 12 with one regenerator 13 which conduits are provided below the furnace chambers 1 and the heating walls 2, and accordingly always conveys similar mediae. Regenerators 13 are divided into correlated compartments 15 to 19 by cross walls 14 which are correlated with respective individual heating groups 5 and 6. Furthermore, by means of a longitudinal wall 20 extending from head, to head a division is made of the regenerators 13 into two longitudinal parts 21 and 22, which parts 21 and 22, respectively, are connected with the heating flues 4 via the respective conduits 11, 12 of each pair of conduits.
We claim:
1. In an improved regenerative coke furnace having upper and lower located burning points within a plurality of heating flues which flues are constituent parts of heating walls and are formed by first and second forms of transverse division walls of which the second form of walls act to combine the heating fiues into separate predetermined groups and having regenerators sub-divided by spaced walls forming a plurality of regenerator compartments corresponding to and correlated with said groups of heating flues and said compartments being connectable by means of sole conduits with regulating devices adapted to be arranged at the exterior side of the furnace and said sole conduits for feeding the flowing mediae such as air, lean gas, and for drawing off waste gases, the improvement for obtaining more uniform heating of the furnace by structure enabling independent controllability of the upper and lower burning points in related heating flues and related groups of heating flues, the improved structure comprising in the combination wall means dividing each of said regenerator compartments into two longitudinal half parts; first connecting conduits connecting each of the respective lower located burning points in communication with a respective first one of said longitudinal half parts; second connecting conduits connecting each of the respective upper located burning points in communication with a respective second of the other of said longitudinal parts; means defining the plurality of sole conduits within each regenerator space, and means for dividing said sole conduits longitudinally by extension wall portions constituting part of said longitudinal division wall means within said regenerator compartments, and to thereby form respective independent compartments correlated to said respective divided sole conduits and adaptable to be controllable by means of said regulating devices.
2. A regenerative coke furnace as defined in claim 1, wherein the upper located burning points are at the upper end of vertical, open stack means, said heating flues having two separate lower and two separate upper located burning points or openings in each flue; said connecting conduits disposed parallel upon one another and connecting said lower burning points and said vertical stack means respectively with said different longitudinal half parts of a correlated regenerator located below the heating walls of said heating flues, and said regenerators are adapted to operate alternately in pairs when heating with lean gas, which may include air, and lean gas alternating with combustion gas.
3. A generator coke furnace as defined in claim 2 wherein said vertical stack means for the upper located burning points comprise a pair disposed diagonally relative to each other within each heating flue and positioned directly opposite one another on opposite sides of said transverse division walls or girders.
4. A regenerative coke furnace as defined in claim 2 further including intense or rich gas inlets arranged in the center of each of said heating flues between stack means forming and leading to said upper located burning point openings.
