One way or mode uses the closed end portion of the carrying device to support the object to be carried and in the second mode, the closed end portion serves as a cover for the object be carried which is suspended in the carrying device.
A principal object of the present invention is to provide a novel carrying device of simple construction.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a carrying device which is capable of being used in either of two ways.
Other objects and advantages of the present invention will be apparent from the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the carrying device in accordance with the present invention.
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of another embodiment of the carrying device in accordance with the present invention.
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of still another embodiment of the carrying device in accordance with the present invention with the open end of the body portion thereof facing downward.
FIG. 4 is a perspective view showing the carrying device I being used in the first mode.
FIG. 5 is a perspective view showing the carrying device being used in the second mode.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Referring now to the drawings, a body portion 1 has an open end indicated generally at 2 and a closed end 5. An article a to be carried can either be supported in the container 1 by the closed end 5 or the closed end 5 can serve as a cover for the article a as it is being carried. The manner by which the closed end 5 can serve as either a support or cover will be described later.
The body portion 1 is provided with several strap inserting portions 3 in spaced apart relationship as shown in FIG. 1. A carrying strap 4 is fed through the strap inserting portions 3 and across the open end 2 in any one of several ways, examples of which are shown in FIGS. 1 through 3. After the carrying strap 4 has been fed through the strap inserting portions 3, the two ends of the carrying strap are secured together.
Each component of the carrying device, the body portion 1, the closed end 5, and the carrying strap 4 are preferably made of a transparent flexible material of a form of synthetic resin but may also be formed of an opaque material or a material other than synthetic resin.
In accordance with the carrying device of the present invention constructed as described above, the body portion 1 can be used as a container for directly carrying the article a by suspending the body portion 1 with a carrying strap 4. In this mode, the closed end 5 is beneath the article a to be carried. Further, the body portion 1, if made of an elastic material, can be reinforced so as not to be deformed and thereby slip down through the carrying strap 4. This is accomplished by means of a reinforcing plate (not shown) placed between the bottom surface of the body portion 1 and the carrying strap 4. The
reinforcement is therefore pushed towards the bottom surface of the body portion 1 by the strap 4 which is slid upward through the strap inserting portions 3. This mode of using the carrying device will hereinafter be called the first" mode.
In another mode, the body portion 1 can be used as a cover for the article by shifting the strap 4 to the open end side of the body portion 1 and suspending the body portion 1 upside down. In this mode, the article a is covered with the body portion 1 and suspended by the strap 4. This mode of using the carrying device as hereinafter be called the second" mode.
In the second mode, the strap 4 is extended across the open end of the body portion 1 and beneath the article a to be carried. As can be seen, the resulting carrying device is easily constructed and can be broken down easily and simply. It is not necessary to cover the article a with wrapping paper and secure it with strings in order to carry it as was done in the past. The article can be easily and quickly carried by covering 7 the article with the body portion] and suspend it therein by the strap 4.
When it is desired to remove the article from the carrying case, it can be done quickly and easily by simply pulling the suspending straps 4 to the edge of the body portion 1 and remove the article 0 thus eliminating the troublesome work of opening the wrapping, etc. Also, because the weight of the article a is wholly exerted on the suspending strap 4 due to the fact that the bottom side of the box is open, the suspending strap 4 must be of a material exhibiting greater strength than is necessary for the material of which the body portion 1 is made. Because of this, the body portion 1 may be made of a material known for its aesthetic qualities, rather than its qualities of strength.
If the body portion 1 is made of a water resistant material,
the article a will remain dry even in damp or rainy weather. If
the body portion 1 is made of a transparent material, an advertisement carried on the article a can be seen from the outside of the package, as well as the overall design of the article a if it happens to be a thing of beauty.
Thus, while the specific embodiments shown and described in this specification and drawings are adapted to fulfill the stated objects of the present invention, it should be understood that it is not intended to confine the and invention to the above-disclosed embodiments since the device is capable of assuming many varying forms, all of which come within the scope of the following claims.
We claim:
1. A two way carrying device comprising:
a. a body portion having an open end;
b. a plurality of carrying strap inserting portions provided on opposite sides of said body portion; and
c. at least one strap inserted through said carrying strap inserting portions and extending across said open end of said body portion, the opposite ends of said strap being connected together, whereby when said open of said body portion is facing upwardly, an article can be cam'ed in said body portion and when said open end is facing downwardly, said body portion acts as a cover for said article to be carried.
2. A two way carrying device as set forth in claim I wherein when said open end is facing downwardly, said article to be carried is held in said body portion by said strap.
3. A two way carrying device as set forth in claim 1 wherein said body portion is constructed of a transparent plasticlike material.
