JOSEPH S. GOLD, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO.
STAN D FOR ISPLAYI NG GOODS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 355,988, dated January 11, 1887. Application filed January 18, 1886. Serial No. 188,900. (No model.)
To ctZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Josnrn S. GOLD, of Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stands for Displaying Goods; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in stands for displaying goods; and it consists in the combination of a suitable slotted frame, providedwith an adjustable brace or support, with the curved arms slotted at their inner ends, which are to be applied to opposite sides of the frame, and which are secured in any desired position by means of clampingbolts which arepassed through the slots in the arms and frame, as will be more fully described hereinafter.
The object of my invention is to provide a stand having curved adjustable arms, upon which dry-goods or carpets of various kinds can be placed for the purpose of displaying them, and in which the arms are made adj ustable in relation to each other.
Figure 1 is a perspective of a frame embodying my invention. Figs. 2 and 3 are detail views showing the manner of forming the inner ends of the arms.
A represents a rectangular frame, of any desired construction, and which has the slots B made through its sides. Loosely connected to the upper end of this frame, by means of hinges or other similar devices, is the adjustable brace O or support, by means of which the frame A is adjusted at any desired in clination.
Used in connection with the frame A are a series of arms, D, which are made straight and slotted at their inner ends, and which have their outer ends curved downward and upward, as shown. Passing through these slotted ends of the arms, and through the slots B in the frame A, are the clamping-bolts G, provided with heads where they come in contact with the slotted arms, and which are screw-threaded at their other ends for the puru pose .of receiving the washers and nuts I. These bolts serve to clamp the slotted arms rigidly to either the outer or inner edges of the frame A and hold them in any desired re lation to each other.
The slots Bin the frame A allow the clamping-bolts G to be adjusted back and forth in relation to each other, so that the hooks D can be moved near together or far apart, according to the nature of the goods which are to be displayed. The slots in the upper ends of the arms allow the arms to be adjustedback and forth upon the frame, so as to extend agreater or less distance beyond its front side, as may be found necessary. By means of the vertical and longitudinal adjustment of the arms goods of different sizes and bulks can be displayed with equal facility. 1
In order to prevent the slotted arms from becoming displaced from any position in which they may be adjusted, they are provided either with sharp points J, which will be forcedinto the edges of the frame, or the ends may be made corrugated, or provided with ribs upon opposite sides, so that the ribs or corrugations can be made to bite into the edge of the frame, and thus be held rigidly in place.
These frames may be arranged in pairs and placed opposite to each other, so that rolls of dry-goods can be placed upon them, or they may be used to hang articles of any kind upon them, as may be desired.
A display-frame such as is here shown is adapted to be placed upon the sidewalk or in windows, upon a counter or the floor of the store, for the purposeof displaying goods of different kinds, and being very light it can be moved around and placed at different inclinations, as may be desired.
I am aware that stands for the display of goods, consisting of a folding frame and provided withgarms for holding different articles, are not new, and this I disclaim. My invention differs from these in having a slotted frame, slotted adjustable arms, and clampof the arms and the frame, for the purpose of 10 ing-bolts by means of which the arms are securing the arms rigidly in position, substanheld'in any desired position. tiaiiy as shown and described. Having thus described my invention, I In testimony whereof I affix my signature 5 claimin presence of two witnesses.
The combination of the frame A, the slots JOSEPH S. GOLD. B, the brace O, for supporting the frame in "Witnesses: l position, the slotted arms D, and the clamp- SAW 0. BUCKINGHAM, ing-bolts which are passed through the ends CHAS. S. OHERINGTON.
