To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, CLARENCE L. WILLITs, of Galva, in the county of Henry and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Display-Rack, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention has for its object to provide a display-rack which Will be particularly adapted for the purpose of displaying neckties, and one which may be readily adjusted to adapt itself to the amount of neckties to be displayed and to the manner in which it is desired to show them; and to this end the invention consists in a device comprising two longitudinal base-bars having peculiar features of construction, and having standards rising vertically therefrom. These standards are arranged in transverse pairs and carry devices for supporting the neckties or other articles displayed, and by reason of the peculiar features of construction which the standards and said supporting devices have, my invention is particularly advantageous, as will appear more fully as this specification progresses. 7

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference inclicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a display-rack embodying the essential features of my invention and showing parts broken away. Fig. 2 is a sectional view also having parts broken away. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the devices'for sup porting certain parts of the rack, and Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2.

In a display-rack embodying the essential features of my invention, two parallel and longitudinal base-bars 1 are provided, and these are formed with longitudinal slots 2, which extend throughout their length, and which have the lower ends of the standards 3 arranged therein and pivotally secured by means of pins 4, said pins being passed transversely through the respective base-bars 1.

The base-bars 1 may be rigidly secured upon their supporting-surface or not, as may be desired, and are provided with a transverse brace 5, which comprises a horizontal strip to, having a perpendicular companion strip 1),

secured at right angles thereto by means of the bracket or angle-iron c, said angle-iron being secured to each part. The brace 5 is held in place by means of clips 6, which are constructed to be secured upon the respective right-hand standards 3 and to have an outwardly and downwardly projecting portion which may lie over the strip 6 of the brace 5, so as to hold the same in place, and by means of the arms 17, the same being two in number and secured to the respective right-hand. standards 3. The brace 5 is principally provided to prevent the neckties or other goods displayed from moving or swinging forwardly. I will in practice apply the brace 5 and its fastening devices to all the standards.

In the drawings I have shown six of the standards 3, but it is obvious that this number may be increased or diminished at will, and said standards each consist of a strip of suitable material having a longitudinal slot 7 formed therein, and these slots 7 are designed to receive the necktie-supporting devices and also the upper end of the respective braces 8. The braces 8 are one for each of the standards 3, and have their upper ends bent transversely and passed through the respective slots 7 and secured by means of thumb-nuts 9, while the lower ends of the braces are also benttransversely and passed through bearings 10, secured to the bars 1, so that the braces may be swung thereon and their upper ends moved along a portion of the respective slots 7, thereby effecting an adjustment of the standards on their pivots 4 and also making it possible to securely brace the standards.

The necktie-supporting devices are of two classes and comprise the rods or bars 11 and the slotted plate 12. The rods or bars 11 are preferably four for each pair of standards and are held thereto and at the desired elevation by means of short studs 13, which comprise an upwardly-extending hook portion d, having extending at right angles to its shank a threaded offset e, the said offset being adapted to project through the adjacent slot 7 of the standard with which it is used and to be secured therein by means of nuts 14. By this means the rods 11 maybe held at any point throughout the vertical extent of the standards to which they are attached, and it is preferred to arrange these rods at equidistant points.

The plates 12 are preferably one for each pair of standards and are each formed with a slot 15, which extends throughout their length and which has the pins 16 therein. These pins 10 each comprise a square shank f, an annular collar 16, and a threaded portion contiguous thereto receiving a nut g. By these means the pins 16 may be secured in the slot 15 of their respective plate 12 and adjusted to the desired position.

In using the invention the rods and plates 11 and 12, respectively, are adjusted transversely, as shown in the drawings, and the neckties spread over them, so as to be advantageously displayed. The pins 16 may serve both as supports and as guides for the goods displayed. It is preferable, however, that they serve in the latter capacity, so as to separate the different classes of necktics.

Having thus described my invention, I

claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A display-rack, comprising two longitudinal base-bars, standards rising therefrom and longitudinally slotted, hook-sections secured and adjustable in said slots, a longitudinally-slotted plate carried by the hooksections, and pins secured in the slot of said plate, substantially as described.

2. A display-rack having mounted standards longitudinally slotted and vertically-extending, hook-sections secured and adjustable in the slots of the standards, a longitudinally-slotted plate carried by the hooksections and disposed approximately at right angles to the standards, and pins secured and adjustable in the slot of said plate, substantially as described.
