ROBERT E. OSBORNE AND MERTN T. HORTON', OIF HAMBURG, NEW YORK.
:DISPLAY-RACK.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented dan. 18., 191'?.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ROBERT E. @sacaran and MERTON T. HoRrroN, citizens of the United States, residing at Hamburg, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Display-Racks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved collapsible, stationary and movable window and floor display rack, adapted for use in a store or other like place for displaying goods of various kinds, the object of our invention being to provide an improved display rack of this character the parts of which may be readily assembled and disassembled, and so arranged and constructed as to enable the rack to be set up in a number of different forms.
'llfhe invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
ln the accompanying drawings z-Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of our invention arranged and set up as a display stand or rack for displaying a single article. Fig.2 is an end elevation showing our invention arranged and set up to forma floor or window display rack. Figsf, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 are detail views of various elements of our improved rack. Fig. 10 is a detail elevation of one of the securing bolts. Fig. 11 is a detail plan of a wheel member for use in making a display wheel. Fig 11%; is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 12 is a plan of a pulley for use in connection with the wheel member. Fig. 12% is a transverse sectional view of the same. Fig. 13 is an elevation of a portion of a shaft for use with a pulley and a wheel member. Figs. 14 and 15 are detail views of bearings for the shaft. Fig. 1G is a similar view of a hinge for use in connection with the bar members te enable them to be arrangedat any desired angle. Fig. -17 is a detail plan of other forms of bar members. Fig. 18 is a detail elevation of one of the hinges and of two of the bar members connected together and arrange at an angle by the hinge and some of the bolts.
1n the embodiment of our invention we provide a suitable number of bases 1 which may be of oblong rectangular form, or of any other suitable shape and' may be of any size required. In connection with each base we also provide a member 2 which is smaller than the base and is placed thereon and serves, when thus arranged, to thicken the base and give it a more substantial appearance and also serves to improve the appearance of the base. We also provide a number of angle p'ieces 3 which are 'here shown as semi-circular and as provided at the flat side with oppositely extending arms 4s Certain of these angle pieces are for use in connection with the bases, one for each, and
said angle pieces are detachably secured on the bases, in any desired relation to the bases, by means of screw bolts 5, each of which has a winged nut 6. Hence the bases, the base members 2 and the angle pieces 3 may be readily secured together or detached, as desired. We also provide a'suitable number of'standard members 7 according to the desired kind or form of the display racks. Each standard member has its lower end secured detachably to the angle piece 3 on one of the bases by means of bolts such as hereinbefore described.
In connection with each standard member, and for use at the upper end thereof we also provide a bracket, plate or head member 8 which may be elliptical, circular, heartshaped, square, or of any `other suitable form as here shown, and which is provided on its underside, at the center, with an angle piece 3 such as hereinbefore described, said angle piece being secured by detachable screw bolts with its flat sidewunder the member 8 and with its vertical side bearing against one side of a standard member 7, at the upper end of said standard member, and secured to said standard member detachably and adj ustably by means of screw bolts, said angle piece and said member 8 being provided with suitably sized, spaced and arranged openings for the screw bolt and which admit of any desired arrangements of the members 8 and angle pieces on the.
standard members, and with said members 8 arranged horizontally at any desired angle.
As shown in Fig: 1 of the drawings the device forms a display stand, composed of one base member, one head member, one standard member and two of the angle pieces.' lln Fig. 2 an end elevation of a floor or window display rack is shown which employs a number of said base, standard, head, and angle pieces in its construction and also employs inclined members 9 and connecting members 10, one each, at each end of the rack, or each section thereof, and also employs display. bars 11 arranged on and connecting the inclined members 9, bars 12, 13 connecting and secured on the front sides of the standard members, and bars 14 connecting and arranged lon the rear sides of the standard members, and bars 15 secured on the upper side of the bars 14. The inclined members 9 have their lower ends secured to angle pieces 3 and their upper ends secured to the standard members. The bars 10 have their opposite ends secured to the inclined members and the standard members. All the various parts are provided with suitably arranged and spaced openings that enable the parts to be detachably secured together by the screw bolts.
The bar members 7, 9, and 10 are in practice provided in various lengths and are of suitable dimensions and are provided with appropriately spaced openings which may be brought into registry to admit the bolts 5 and enable said members to be secured together in any desired relation according to the form of display rack it is desired to construct. All the various parts are so constructed and arranged as to enable a varietyl of display racks to be made therefrom.
To enable a display Wheel to be constructed, we provide a Wheel member 16 which is circular, of suitable diameter and thickness, and is provided With radially arranged and suitably spaced openings 17 to permit strips or members 7, 9, or `10 to be bolted thereto and arranged radially and to be braced by means of suitable strips 18 such as shown in Fig. 17 and which are provided With suitably spaced openings, as shown. The pulley 12 may be bolted to one side of the center of the Wheel member 16, said Wheel member having openings Which register with those in the pulley for the reception of bolts and the pulley may be provided With a shaft 19 such as shown in Fig. 13 and secured to the ulley by a set screw 20 with which the pul ey is provided. Bar pieces or members 21, such as shown in Figs. 14 and 15 are provided for the shaft and may be secured on suitable members of the variety shown at 7, or 9 by some of the bolts 5. Vhen a display wheel has been thus constructed it may be rotated by a power belt engaged by the pulley as will be understood.
le also provide hinges 22 such as shown in Fig. 16 and which are provided with openings correspondingly spaced and to register with openings in the bar mombers or pieces 7, 9, 10 or the pieces shown in Fig. 17 to enable such pieces to be connected together and arranged at any suitable angle as may be required in the construction et' a rack as shown in Fig. 18. A variety oi racks may be readily constructed by appropriately assembling the various parts provided by our invention.
Having thus described our invention we claim In a display rack, a pair of base members arranged in spaced relation and each having an angle piece in its upper side, a standard member having its lower end detachably and pivotally secured to the angle piece of one of the base members, an inclined bar having its upper portion detachably, pivotally and adjustably connected to the standard and its lower end detachably and pivotally secured to the angle piece of the other base member and a connecting bar detachably, pivotally and adjustably secured to the standard and to the inclined bar.
In testimony whereof We aiiix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
