NITED STATES ATENT me,
SAMPLE EXHIBITION Box.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 355,914 dated January 11, 1887.
Application filed August 31,1886.
T0 aIZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAV A. BISLER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sample or Exhibition Boxes;
, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a face View of a finished pocket adapted to form an end of a sample-box, the said pocket containing a card or label. Fig. 2 representsa top view of a portion of a box having a pocket in its end formed to admit a card from above. Fig. 3 represents a block or piece of material designed to form the back piece of the pocket and end of the box. Fig. 4 represents an intermediate piece with recess used in forming the pocket. Fig. 5 represents the piece shown in Fig. 4 with a covering, F. Fig. 6 represents a front piece with opening used in forming the pocket. Fig. 7 represents the front piece with a covering for securing it in position.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
My invention relates to improvements in the class of boxes having pockets to receive cards indicating the contents of the box and it consists in constructing the end piece of a box of several parts, as a back piece, an intermediate piece, a front piece with opening, a lining, and a front covering piece, as hereinafter described, whereby a pocket is formed, adapted to contain the label and exhibit the lettering thereon.
Referring to the drawings, Arepresents one end of a box, the same having a pocket, B, in which may be placed the card 0, which indicates the contents of the box.
In making the pocket I take a piece, D, of wood, heavy card-board, or other suitable material, as a back, and secure thereto a piece of pasteboard or other material, D, the latter Serial No, 212,294. (No model.)
having a recess, E, which is of the width and depth desired for a pocket, the opening of the recess being at top. A lining, F, of leather, paper, or other suitable material, is then secured to the uncovered portion of the back piece D. The side walls of the recess E constitute the sides of the pocket, and the bottom of said recess constitutes the bottom of the pocket. A piece, G, of pasteboard or other material having an opening, H, in its face is then secured to the piece D and constitutes the front of the pocket, said piece G, excepting the opening H, being covered by a piece, J, of leather or other material, whose sides and ends are folded over the back D and secured thereto by gumming, pasting, or otherwise, thus completing the pocket, which, as will be seen, readily receives the card 0 and exposes the descriptive matter of the same through the opening H, which latter, prior to the introduction of the card, is in communication with the pocket, the device being inexpensive, durable, and serviceable in its nature.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A pocket for cards or labels, consisting of a back piece, an intermediate recessed portion, a front piece with opening, and a frontcovering piece with opening corresponding to opening in said front piece, all of said parts combined and arranged substantially as described.
2. A pocket for cards and labels, formed of a back piece, a recessed intermediate piece, and a front piece with an opening, a linin covering the inner back wall and sides of the pocket, and a front-covering piece with an opening corresponding to the opening. in the front piece, all substantially as described.
