have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Suspenders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvements in attachments which are adapted for use, combined or singly, with Suspenders, drawers sup ports, or other analogous devices, all aswill be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawings, Figure l is a front view of my improved combined buckle or clamp and clasp. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the saine. Fig. 3 is a side View of the same. Fig. 4. is a front view of the hanger. Fig. 5 is another View of the saine illustrating method of construction. Fig. 6 is a back view of modited form of buckle or clamp, shown applied to drawerssupports. Fig. 7 is a side sectional view of same, and Figs. '8, 9, and l0 are detached detail views.

Referring to the drawings, a is the frame inY which the clamping device operates, and

through which the suspender-webbing passes..

Its front wall, a', is curved transversely, vas shown in Figs. l and 3. At its sides, and extending inwardly, parallel with the front wall, are the curved flanges a2 a2, (see Fig. 2,) provided with the-vertical slots a a3. The transverse indentation a* forms an inner shoulder, af, in the frame, as shown in Fig. 3. f

I) is the main body of the clamping device, which is of a sharper curve than the side flanges, a2 a2. Across this portionb are the indentations b', producing spurs upon its inner face, for frictional contact with the webbing. On either side of the portion b, near its upper edge, are the lugs bZ b2, which pass through the a shoulder. I The lower end of the frame c is turned inwardly, forming the'shoulder c4, and downwardly, forming the tlange c5. The lip c6, in the same plane with the flange c5, extends inwardly to a point near thelower end of the spring-strip c ci. shown. The downwardly-extending portions di d3 of the frame, with thcinwardly extending lugs (F, are stamped or cut in the form shown in Fig. 5, and by bending in these portions da d3 ,the lugs d" are caused to engage with the hollow rollers e e, forming the complete hangerl shown in Fig. 4.

The clasp and hanger just described are i1nprovements in the construction covered by Letters Patent No. 329,434, granted to me on the 3d day of November, 1885.

In Figs. 6, 7, and l0 is shown the modification applied to the end of a drawers-support, inwhich f is the frame, in the form of a hollow rectangular box with open ends. Within this boX- f is adj ustably placed the clamping device, of which f is the main body, having at its upper end the lip f 2. f3 is a curved portion adapted to exert a spring-pressure against the strap to be secured, and at the lower end is the inwardly-turned serrated lip ft. l

The operation of the clamp or buckle shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3 is as follows: The webbing g of the shoulder-strap is passed between the curved wall a of the frame and the clamping device b, as shown in Fig. 3. By.

holding the frame and pullingthe webbing downwardly, the clamping device b drops down, and the lower serrated lip, b, by reason of the curved form of both clamping device and frame, is swung out, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3, in order to clear it from contact with the webbing. The projecting lugs b2, which slide in the slots a? of the curved flanges a2 as the clamping device is moved either way, being within the curved portion, do not therefore project and cause injurious contact with the clothing.

In the operation of the form shown in Figs. 6, 7, and l() the clamping device, as it is 'pushed up within the box f, brings the serrated lip f* in contact with the drawers-support strap passing through the box f, firmly holding it against the shoulder f5, formed by the lower front edge of the box f. The curved portion f3, being then within the box and pressing upon the) strap h, prevents the accidental disengagement of the serrated lip f4 from the strap h.

The curved clamping device b (shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3) could be operated within a straight frame; but the curved form shown enables the serrated lip to be thrown farther from the strap g when it is disengaged.

The T-sh'aped hanger shown in Fig. 4 is engaged with the spring-clasp as follows: The turned-up ends dZ of the T are inserted in the slot cs, catching under the inner edges of the frame c, passing over the spring-strip c', and guided by the turned-up edges d d2 into the lower portion of the slot o8, resting within and under such'slot and upon the portion c4 on either side of the slot, the hanger being in front of the portions c5 and c of the frame. `prevent the accidental disengagement of the hanger from the clasp.

The clasp above described may be called a smooth-surfaced clasp-that is, having its frame and spring on the same plane; and as a hanger with turned-up points or ends other than one that is strictly T-shaped could be used in connection therewith, I do not wish to confine the use of the clasp t0 a T- shaped hanger.

I claim-- 1. An attachment for Suspenders, &c., having a clamping device consisting of a curved plate adj ustably arranged within a frame, and having a lower serrated edge adapted to operate in conjunction with a shoulder in the frame, and a raised portion or portions to hold the -serrated edge in engagement with the strap which passes through the iframe, and a clasp consisting of a frame having a slot within or under which is provided va shoulder, such slot being adapted for the reception of a T- shaped hanger, substantially as shown and described. 2. A clasp consisting of the frame c, the slot c, the shoulder c, ange c, and lip e", and the spring-strip c', with shouldered portion c2 and tongue c, in combination with a hanger, substantially as shown and described.

3. The combination, with the clasp consisting of the frame c, having the slot ce, the shoulder c, flange c5, and lip c6, and the spring-strip c', with shouldered portions c and tongue c3, of the hanger having the T headd, with the turned-up ends al2 d2, substantially as and for the purpose stated. j

4. A buckle consisting of a curved plate or clamping device adjustably arranged within a frame, and having a lower serrated edge adapted to operate in conjunction with a shoulder in the frame, and a raised portion or portions to hold the serrated edge in engagement with the strap which passes through the frame, kin combination with a clasp or hanger, for the purpose stated.

5. In a buckle, the combination, with the curved frame a, having the curved flanges al a and the shoulder a?, of the curved clamping device b, provided with the serrated edge b', and of a clasp or hanger, for the purpose set forth.

6. In a buckle, the combination, with the curved frame a, having the curved and slotted flanges a2 a3 and the shoulder a5, of the curved clamping device b, provided with the lugs b b, the indentations b', and the serrated edge b, and of the hanger d, substantially as shown and described.

7. The combination, with a clasp having its l frame and spring in the same plane, of ahanger having turned-up points or ends to guide it into engagement with the clasp and prevent accidental disengagement therefrom, substantially as shown and described.

8. The combination, with a clasp having its frame and spring in the same plane, of a T- shaped hanger having its T-head provided with turned-up ends or points to guide it into engagement with the clasp and prevent accidental disengagement' therefrom, substan tially as shown and described.
