Description
W. J. MOLLOY. GARMENT SUPPORTER- APPLICATION FILED 00w. 20, 1913.
1,106,886. Patented Aug. 11, 1914.
UNITED sra'rns PATENT onmon.
WILLIAM JOSEPH MOLLOY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, TVILLIAM J osnrrr MOL- LOY, a citizen of the United States, residing patent is designed more particularly for supporting mens hose, and the object of the in vention is to provide a support of this kind which will securely hold the hose without the employment of a garter or similar limbencircling part. This object is attained by providing a double clasp of a novel and improved construction to be hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device, and Fig. 2 is a front view thereof showing its application.
Referring specifically to the drawing the supporter comprises a link or loop 5 of suitable metal having opposite elongated portions 6 shaped to form wedge slots 7. Cooperating with one of the wedge slots is a locking device or catch in the shape of a slidable tongue 8 having a longitudinal slot 9 through which passes a stud or rivet 10 carried by the part 6 adjacent to the slot. On the other side of the slot the part 6 has a keeper 11 in the form of an arch which is struck up from said part. The tongue 8 is slidable in the direction of its length, and one end thereof is adapted to be inserted under the keeper 1].. The other end of the tongue has a lateral bend 12 to form a stop, as well as a handle. The first mentioned end of the tongue is tapered by cutting one edge on a slant, as indicated at 13. One edge of the slot 9 is smooth and the opposite copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner Specification of Letters Patent.
. Application filed October 20, 1913.
Patented Aug. 11, 1914.. Serial No. 796,280.
edge has serrations 1 1 which serve to lock the tongue when the stud 10 seats in one of said serrations.
Fig. 2 shows the manner in which the device is applied. The device is positioned so that the gathered portion 15 of the drawers 16 may be wedged in the slot 7 having the catch 8, which latter is retracted before placing the part 15 in the slot. The catch is then pushed forward to extend across the slot and its tapered end is inserted into the keeper 11. The tapered end of the catch jams the part 15 tightly in the slot and prevents it from being pulled out. The stud 10 is seated in one of the serrations 14, where by the catch is prevented from being accidentally retracted. The part 12 limits the forward movement of the catch by engaging the edge of the part 6. The device is thus securely attached to the drawers. The hose 17 is gathered, as indicated at 18, and the gathered portion is wedged in the other slot 7.
The device herein described can be readily applied and removed, and it is simple and can therefore be cheaply manufactured. The loop 5 can be easily stamped out of flat sheet metal.
I claim:
A garment supporter comprising a member having a wedge slot, and a slidable catch carried by the member and adjustable to extend across the wedge slot, said catch having a longitudinal slot, one side of which is serrated, and a stud carried by the mem ber, said stud extending into the slot and be ing engageable with the serrations.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
\VILLTAM JOSEPH MOLLOY.
