ALBERT OTTENHEIMER, OF STUTTGART, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO OTTEN- HEIMER BROTHERS, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
CORSET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 354,871, dated December 21, 1886.
Application filed June 28, 1886. Serial No. 206,397.
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT OTTENHEIMER, of Stuttgart, in the Empire of Germany, have invented an Improvement in Corsets, of which the following is a specification.
Corsets have been made with openings at the breasts to accommodate nursing mothers, and fastenings of various kinds havebeen employed to secure the corset-bosom when closed; but
they have been liable to become loose and be very uncomfortable for the wearer.
My invention is made for closingthe corsetbosoms with rapidity and for holding them securely, so that they will not become unfastened- 5 or the parts misplaced.
1n the drawing I have represented the front portions of the corset with one side open and the other closed.
The corset itself is of any desired size or shape, and each bosom portion is made with the two half portions a and b, with the edges lapping upon each other, the place of separation being vertical, or nearly so, and at c is a button and at d a button-hole for securing the 2 5 lapping parts at upper portions of the bosom. If buttonsand button-holes alone wereused, considerable time would be consumed in opening and properly closing the breast portions of such corset, and the same would be liable to 0 become unbuttoued and no part would yield as the breasts become distended or the reverse. To overcome these difficulties, I introduce an (No model eyelet or opening in the flap a," and pass through the same a cord, e, preferably elastic and double, and sew or otherwise fasten the end of such 3 5 cord to the fiap b, and this loop of cord is of such a length that when it is drawn up it will reach to and be passed over the button 0. By this means the middle and lower part of the corset-bosom can be rapidly closed or opened, 0
The combination, with a corset-bosom having two flaps, one lapping upon the other, and a button and button-hole for connecting the flaps at the upper'part, of a cord passing through a hole in the outer flap near the middlepart of the edge of the same, and connected at its ends I to the inner flap, and adapted to pass over the button when the parts have been buttoned together, substantially as set forth. Signed by me this 10th day of June, 1886.
ALBERT OTTEN HEIMER.
