SEBALD FIOHTNER, OF MlLlVAUKEE, \VISCONSIN.
NET FOR HORSES.
SPECIFICATION fonriing part ofLetters Patent No. 354,406, dated December 14, 1886.
Application filed July 17, 1886. Serial No. 208,249. (No model.)
To all whmn it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SEBALD FIOHTNER, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of \Visconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Nets for Horses; and
-I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of said invention, reference being had to theaccompanyingdrawing, and to the letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a device whereby the shrinking and lengthen ing and the twisting and contorting of the net which is common upon exposure to wet weather in all mesh-nets constructed entirely of cotton or woolen may be overcome, while at the same time a much stronger and more durable net is obtained than those which are fabricated entirely of cotton or woolen thread or yarn.
The drawing is a view of a part of the center or back strap of a mesh-net, with strands of the net attached thereto on one side.
In the drawing, A is a portion of the center or back strap of a mesh net, which is of leather, and is provided with two series of apertures, B B and B B, one series on each side of the strap near the edge, through each of which apertures a loop formed of the thread or yarn O of which the meshes are to be constructed is inserted, and one strand is passed th rough this loop after theloop has been thrust through the aperture in the strap, whereby the strands of the net are attached to the strap A and the meshes of the net afterward formed of these strands are secured thereto. One series of apertures, near the middle of the strap, might be used to attach the strands on both sides of the strap; but I prefer to use two series of apertures, one near each edge.
The strands C O of the net are cotton, woolen, or some similar thread or yarn.
Heretofore it has been common to weave a back-strap for 1nesh-netsof thread or yarn of the same or similar material as that of which the meshes of the net are made, and to weave the strands of the net into the fabric of the back-strap; but more difficulty and less durability have been had in the use of the old form of not than was desirable, and my device is constructed to obviate these and other defects.
D is a separate strap, but is connected to the strap A by means of the buckle E, and is the center strap of the neck-piece of the net, the strap D being in effect a continuation of the strap A. The strap A, upon which the net is constructed, being of leather and being not liable to great shrinkage or contortions by reason of exposure to wet weather, holds the net in shape, and makes the net available and useful in damp weather when nets made wholly of cotton or woolen or similar fabric would be practically useless.
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is y In a mesh-net for horses, a leather backstrap, A, and two series of apertures, B and B, therein, in combination with the strands of amesh-net attached thereto, which strands are of cotton, wool, or some similar material, a loop in each strand passing through an aperture in the backstrap, and one end of the strand passing through the loop, all substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
' SEBALD FICHTNER.
