UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SUSAN P. VVILLCOX, OF FAIRHAVEN, MASSACHUSETTS.
CUFF-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 354,288, datedDecember 14, 1886. Application tiled June 5, 1856. Serial No. 204,284. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I,SUsAN P. Wrtroox, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fairhaven, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ladies and Childrens Cuff-Fasteners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in providing a cuff-holder of covered or uncovered elastic or rubber loop or button-hole designed to surround the cuff button or stud, the opposite end being fastened to the dresssleeve, and so keep the cuff in place.
My invention relates to cuff fasteners especially adapted for the use ofladies and children, and is designed to Supply a want long feltto wit, a cheap and convenient cufffastener by the use. of which a ladys cuff may readily be secured to the inner side or lining of her dresssleeve without pinning through the sleeve and cuff, using a common pin for the purpose, the point of whiclnbeing unprotected, was a source of annoyance on account of its liability to catch into other articles or parts of the wearingapparel; and it consists in certain combinations and arrangements of parts, which will be best understood by reference to the description of the drawings, and to the claims to be hereinafter given.
Figure 1 of the drawings isa plan of myimproved cunt-fastener, and Fig. 2 represents the same applied to secure a cuff to a ladys dress sleeve.
In the drawings, A istlre elastic loop, which may be a round elastic cord or a narrow flat elastic tape, a short piece of which is doubled at the middle of its length, and the two ends are firmly secured within the metal clamp D, as shown in Fig. 1.
E is a safety-pin, made from a single piece of wire bent to the form shown, so that when in use the pin proper and its supporting-bar are nearly parallel, said supporting-bar hav ing mounted thereon the clamp D in such a manner that it may be moved about the axis of said bar and longitudinally thereon.
The operation of my invention is as follows: The pin E,with the elastic loop A attached,is secured to the dresssleeve, preferably upon the inside thereof, and the sleeve button or stud O,used to secure the cuff together around the wrist of the wearer, is buttoned into the elastic loop A, all as shown in Fig. 2.
WVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. In a cuff-fastener, the combination of the safety-pin E, the elastic loop A, and the clamp D, firmly secured to one end of said loop and mounted upon and movable about the bar of said pin and projecting at right angles therefrom, substantially as described.
2. In a cuff-fastener, the combination of the safety-pin E, the elastic loop A, and the clamp D, firmly secured to one end of the loop A and mounted upon the bar of said pin, so as to be movable about the axis of said bar and longitudinally thereof, substantially as described.
SUSAN r. wILLooX.
