FIG.6.
INVENT OR ARPAD SIMON BY 4 Z4; 1
ATTGRNEY FUEL INLET VAPORIZERS FOR CARBURATORS This invention relates to fuel inlet vaporizers for carburetors of internal-combustion engines.
More particularly, this invention modifies the conventional design of said vaporizers or jet spray nozzles with a view to make them adjustable as to the area of fuel intake and to provide for successive collisions of the liquid fuel undergoing the vaporizing process, in order to obtain as improved molecular diffusion. Other solutions towards achieving these results have already been proposed, and have been known under the incorrect designation of atomizers, whereas they actually aim to achieve a better molecular diffusion in the vaporization process, in order to secure the largest possible diffusion of fuel inside the carburetor, thus achieving the fullest possible burning of the fuel.
The efforts made towards this goal are justifiable, as the savings in fuel, in keeping with the power developed, is the most important objective of research or improvement of internal combustion engines, in order to upgrade the operating cost rate. In other words, the ideal engine would be one which, with the least possible amount of fuel and with the lightest weight, develops the largest possible amount of useful work, and in which the loss of fuel is kept within the smallest possible limits.
The resent invention has achieved this satisfactory result and this has been proven through extensive trials conducted in the field with substantial percentual saving in one single engine, by employing the jet nozzle of this invention to replace the conventional atomizer.
This invention will be further described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 is a side view of the jet nozzle of the invention;
FIG. 2 is a sectional vertical view along line A-B in FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a top plan view;
FIG. 4 is a bottom plan view;
FIG. 5 shows the retaining ring;
FIG. 6 shows the adjustable screw.
The jet spray nozzle comprises a substantially cylindrical main body, outwardly threaded in 2 to allow it to be secured in threaded engagement to the carburetor; fuel inlet holes 3, and internal threads 4 and 5, for inclusion of the supplementary vaporizer and of an adjusting screw.
The adjusting or regulating screw is inserted through an expanded cylindrical chamber 6 and is provided with aperipheral recessed groove for seating the retaining ring 7, which is an elastic member, specifically shown in FIG. 5 and which is constrainedly carried between the adjusting screw recessed groove, wherein it is seated, and the wall of the chamber, sliding over same with a sealing action. The adjustable screw has a threaded section 8, mated to the nozzle inner threads at 5 and ending by a pointed central tip 9.-
The supplementary vaporizer is also a substantially cylinder-shaped piece 10 outwardly threaded and fastened to the main body 1 through the inner threads 4 of same, having an axially disposed central bore 11, enlarged at the top 13 and at the bottom 12, the bottom enlargement 13 being extended upwards in the form of a small tubular cylindrical inner section provided with an internal groove for seating a small crosswisely disposed spring 14, to retain the collision and diffusion cover 15, which is a substantially truncated conical shaped piece, having at its base a plurality of edges 16, forming peripheral passages, and having at the bottom, crosswisely disposed, stepped grooves 17 and 18, that might be present in a larger number, ending in the lowermost tip 19. The adjusting screw is provided with a diametral slot 20 at the bottom end, adapted for the application of a screw driver and corresponding adjustment operations, namely, to make the tip 9 advance against the enlarged bore 12 or to retract thereby modifying the flow of fuel through inlets 3, toward the collision and diffusion cover 15.
The operation of the fuel jet spray nozzle of this invention can be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which the invention is related, by the following description.
'The fuel is admitted into the central bore through inlets 3. being molecularly diffused by colliding with the wall of central bore 11, with the walls of the enlarged entrance 12, and still against the internal and lowermost portion of conical body 15, their groovesand tip 17, 18 and 19, in order to be ejected through the interstitial spaces of the edges 16 with the largest possible degree of atomization, thereby causing a rich and economic mixture on entering the combustion chamber.
Therefore this invention affords a double advantage: in the first place, it allows a preregulation of the inlet ducts 'and passages, said regulation being ideally directly controlled through the diametral slot in the regulating screw or by remote control by means of eccentrics or through rotary flexible cables, to be operated by the driver from the dashboard; in the second place, this feature is still more important, the invention provides an intensive vaporization, preventing fuel losses, since the successive collisions in the path of the fuel flow and the peripheral distribution ensure a satisfactory molecular diffusion--and consequently better fuel usage. The fuel will never be wastefully burned, and this results in substantial sav ing, which has been experimentally proved, over the best known carburetors available in the market, through the simple replacement of the respective conventional jet nozzle by the improved fuel jet spray nozzle of our invention herein described.
While a preferred embodiment of the invention has been described in detail with reference to a particular practical application of the adjustable fuel jet spray nozzle for carburetors, it is to be understood that the invention is susceptible of other structural embodiments differing from the particular embodiments disclosed and may be used in environments other than that disclosed without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention.
For instance, the profile or arrangement of the impact or collision portions may be changed through more difficult industrial operations but functionally equivalent. The cover 15 and the fastening of same by a transversely disposed spring 14 might be changed, excavated screws being used instead, or by modifying the path of the fuel conducting inlets. These and other changes and alterations fall within the scope of our invention, as long as it comprises means such as those described and shown to regulate the size of the fuel passage and to interpose in the fuel path collision features in order to multiply the functional effect that leads towards a maximum molecular fractioning up to the final entrance of the atomized fuel in the combustion chamber.
Iclaim:
