BAIT BOX.
Patented Nov. 23, 1886.
L MTNESSES: INVENTQIR: QOD L1/ML zmmcm@ W1? //j` SAMAW` PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD W. DELAND, OFYSACO, MAINE.
BAIT- BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent Nro. 353,022, dated November 23, 1886.
Application led May 8, 1886. Serial No. 201,512. (Model.)
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, EDWARD W; DELAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Saco, in the county ofYork and State of.Maine, have invented a new and useful improvement in Bait-Boxes for the Use of Sportsmen, of which the following'is a speciticaton. `f
The object of my invention is to afford a con- Venient and compact receptacle for bait, iiies, hooksfcaps, or other sportsmens small ware, in combination with acup for drinking or other purposes, the cup being readily Vand securely attachable to the box, and readily removable when required for use, and thoroughly protected from the entrance of dust or foreign matter while in position on the box. These objects. I attain by the construction herein specified, andiliustrated by the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 isan cnd View showing the boxcovervraised. Fig. 2 is a front View showing the box-cover raised. Fig. 3 is a sectional view showing the box a, projecting rim b, and cup c, when in combination.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The box a is constructed of metal or other suitable material, the form being varied as taste or experience may suggest. The box is `provided with lugs or loops on the back, -designed to receive a strap to 'secure the box to the person. These lugs or loops are attached to or forman integral part of an extension of the rear of the box above the downwardlyprojecting flexible rim, so that they may not interfere with the entrance of the edgeof the hereiuafterdescribed cup.beneath that part of the rim on the rear of said box. The edges of the box are turned out and down', forming a flexible rim, b. A space is left between this downwardly-projecting rirl andthe outside of the box sufticient to admit the edge of the cup c. By this mode of construction the cup, when pressed firmly up and under the rim, is securely retained upon the box and is effectually protected from the entrance of dust or dirt. The cup c is of such shape as to inclose the bottom and sides of the box a. The rim b is made to project downwardly, so as to cover the edge of the cup when iu position, and, being exible, retains it on the box.
When in use, the box is attached to the person by any ordinary method. Should the cup be required for use, it may be eadil y detached by a downward pull, and by a single upward pressure may be as readily returned to its position and secured and protected from dust or harm.
This mode of construction and combination avoids the necessity of a separate cup or drink ingvessel as an article of equipment without essentially increasing the bulk or weight of the box, and the cup is always at hand for immediate use.
I am aware that bait-boxes constructed so as to be attached to the person, and cups covering liasks and other vessels, are in common use. These are not claimed as my invention.
What Lclaiin as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A bait-box having on the back lugs or loops l'or the purpose of securing the box to f with loops to secure it to thev person, and a de' pending flexible rim to clasp and retain a. cup which embracesthe body of the box, as shown and described.
EDWARD W. D EL AND.
