Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 35,260, dated May 13, 1862.

In the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, A and B represent the two handles of the tongs and C D the jaws. The jaw C forms a part of the handle A.
E represents a graduated bar, which is secured to the jaw D and which passes through the jaw C. This bar also passes through a slot in the end of handle B, and a screw or pin, F,
passing through the handle B and bar E, se-
cures them together. By means of the graduated bar E the two jaws may be set nearer together or farther apart.
G represents a standard secured to the handle A, which passes into a slot in handle B and is pivoted to it. By opening and closing the handles the jaws are brought together or separated in a parallel position.
The bar E may enter the jaw D about its center, and if necessary that portion of the jaw behind the bar may be suited or formed for holding round bars. g

The'einployment of the handles A B, the jaws C D, the bar E, screw F, and standard G, arranged and used together in the manner and for the purpose herein set forth and described.
