Description

H; SHARP. WRENCH.
No. 11,100.` Patented Jan. 5, 1864.
Niven STATES virion@ ATENT MPROVEMENT is Wamel-ies.
Siieciticntiou forming puri oi' Letters latent No. 415, M90, eiaicd January 5, 1564. l
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY SHARP, of Port Richmond, in the county of Richmond und State of New York, have invent-ed a new` and Improved Wrench; andi do hereby declare that the following is a fu1l,'clear, and exact description of the same, reference being hurl to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure lV is a side View of my invention;
i Fig. 2, an edge view ofthe slnie.
Similar lette-rs of reference indicate corre. spending parts in the two ligures.
'ihis inventionl consists in having` the movable javi' ofthe wreuchvattnched to a slide which is fitted on'the shank or bar of. the stationary jaw, said shank or bar being provided at one edge with 'a rack into whichv a lever attached to the sliding jaw works, all being arranged-- in such a manner as to i'orni a durable and economical wrench.
D, which is allowed'to Work freely on B, andI has a jaw, E, connected with it, the face side,
'a, of the latter being parallel vwith the face side, u', 0f the jaw A, as shown clearly in Fig.4 lf. To the outer side of the jaw E there is secured by a'pivotbolt, F, a lever, G, the bolt' F passing throng-h the lever a little at one side of its center. The front or outer end ofthe lever G noms under a shoulder, b, at
the outer side of jaw E, and the inner end-of said lever works in the rack C. The ends of the lever G are of curved form, es shown at c, said curves forming parte of circles which areeecentrie with the pivot-bolt F, as vinailicated in red in Fig. 2. The sliding or Inovablejaiv E- is adjusted to the nut by turning the lever G so that its ends will be freefroin the shoulder band ruck G. The slide D and jaw E may then be moved freely. and when the latteris in con tact with thenut the lever G- is turned so that its curved enfls c will pass one under the shoulder b and the other over a. tooth of the rack C; and as said lever is adjusted in place its -curvedinner end will,in consequence of its ecce1itricity,press the jaw E iii-oily against-,the
nut. The bearing or shoulder b. it will be seen, takes the strain off from the pivotbolt F'. lThe wrench may be made of wrought or malleable casviron, and at a very moderate cost. It is net liehlet-o get out-oi" repair, and may be adjusted lwith' the greatest facility to nuts.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and. desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 4 The jaw' E. attached te the slide D, in combination with the lever G and rack C,l 'all arranged, substantiallyasshown, to forln a new. and improved wrench.
.h4 HENRY 1 g SHARP.
