YARN SEPARATING DEVICE FOR SEWING MACHINES The present invention is concerned with a yarn separating device, which can be fitted as an attachment to sewing machines.
The fitting to a sewing machine of a yarn separating device causes difficulties of housing the various components which form the yarn cutting device, the necessity of having to assemble the parts on the sewing machine and the difficulty of effecting the exact cooperation of blade and counter blade. The difficulties are increased by the fact that various types of sewing machines are differently constructed and this has to be taken into consideration when choosing and fitting the components. Hence the fitting to a sewing machine of a yarn cutting device can only be carried out by highly qualified experts. Since the subsequent fitting of yarn separating devices should be carried out at an assembly workshop for sewing machines, this means that in addition to the actual working time, considerable time for the journey of the highly qualified expert must be added.
It is an object of this invention to eliminate the foregoing drawbacks in such a manner that, if necessary, even a layman can fit a sewing machine with a yarn separating device. The present invention provides a yarn separating device for attachment to sewing machines having a blade and a counter blade, in which the blade and the counter blade are mounted on a mounting plate which replaces the baseplate slide of the sewing machine and having means which secure the mounting plate in the desired mounting position. For this purpose it is particularly advantageous to provide the blade drive also with power supply and gearing unit on the mounting plate, the power supply principally being a plunger type armature magnet.
In a preferred embodiment the design is such that an angle plate carries the plunger type armature magnet in an overhung position and a bearing boss supports a pivotable pin whose one end is connected to the armature of the magnet and on whose other end is mounted an arm carrying the blade. The angle plate is usually mounted on a peripheral side of the mounting plate.
For the fitting of the separating device the baseplate slide which is present in every sewing machine, is removed and replaced by the mounting plate with the blade.
Whilst to date many hours or even days were required for the fitting to a sewing machine of a yarn cutting device, the same result can now be obtained in a few minutes. The omission of the baseplate slide entails no disadvantages since it is usual to gain access to the interior parts ofthe sewing machine from below.
The constructional unit itself of the invention can be produced at a reasonably low cost since it can be mass produced by using all facilities which are present in a manufacturing plant.
The invention is hereinafter explained with reference to the drawing illustrating an example, in which are:
FIGURE 1 a perspective view of a fabric-supporting plate with baseplate slide of a sewing machine; FIGURE 2 a perspective view of a yarn separating device. Sewing machines usually have in a fabric-supporting plate 1, stitch plate 2 and a baseplate slide 3 in front of the latter. A
mounting plate 4 corresponding to the baseplate slide 3 carries a fixed counter blade 6 which works together with a movable blade 5 and is rigidly connected to an angle plate 8 by means of a guide block 7. A plunger type armature magnet 10 is mounted in an overhung position on a long flange 9. A hearing boss 11 is mounted on the opposite side the long flange 9. A pin 12 is pivoted in the boss 11 in which and to this pin 12 is connected an offset arm 13, which at its free ends carries the movable blade 5. On the end opposite the arm 13 the pin 12 is connected to a swivel arm 14, which is connected by means of a spherical joint 15 to an intermediate member 16, to which an armature 17 of the plunger type armature magnet 10 is connected. A short flange l8 and an angle guide 19 form guides. through which the mounting plate 4 can be inserted into the fabric-supporting plate 1, instead of the baseplate slide 3. In order to retain the mounting plate 4 in the fixed position threaded holes 20, 21 are provided in the short flange l8 and in the angle guide 19 into which screws may be inserted which hold the mounting plate 4 by means of a clamping effect on the guide.
Furthermore a supporting rod 22 is inserted between the mounting plate 4 or the angle guide 19 and the angle plate 8, whose clamping effect is adjustable through screw 23.

l. Yarn separating device for attachment to a sewing machine having a blade, a mounting plate, and a counter blade, means mounting the blade and the counter blade on said mounting plate which is adapted to replace the base plate slide of a sewing machine and having means which secure the mounting plate in the desired mounting position.
2. A device according to Claim 1 having means for moving the blade comprising a plunger type armature magnet mounted on the mounting plate.
3. A device according to Claim 2 including an angle plate, a bearing boss, a pivotable pin and an arm, means securing said angle plate to said mounting plate, means mounting said plunger type armature magnet on said angle plate in an overhung manner, said bearing boss supports said pivotable pin, said pivotable pin having one end connected to the armature and the other end mounted on said arm, said arm carrying said blade.
4. A device according to Claim 1 having a supporting rod whose clamping effect is adjustable and is fitted between the mounting plate and the angle plate.
5. A device according to Claim 1 having guides provided on the mounting plate which, in combination with a screw, hold the mounting plate in position.
