SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 352,348, dated November 9, 1886.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, FRANCIS M. PIPER, of Lynn, county of Essex, State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Im- 5 provements'in Suspenders, of which the following is a specification, taken in connection with the drawings accompanying and forming a part hereof, in which- Figure 1 is a view of a pair of suspenders,

10 showing my improvement attached. Fig. 2 is a View of a modified form of my attachment.

The object of my invention is the production of suspenders which shall not only support the sides and back of the trousers, but shall I 5 also support the front thereof; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of a pair of straps extending from the front straps of the suspenders near the shoulder to the front of thewaist of the trousers, as shown and here- 20 inafter described.

My invention is simple, and will be readily understood from the following description, in which reference is had to the accompanying drawings.

A represents the shoulder-straps of a pair of suspenders. These I provide with buckles and eyes a, which may be set at any point on the straps A, as desired, thus allowing the straps B B to be raised or lowered. The straps B 30 are secured together at their lower ends, as

shown, Fig. 1, and are there provided with a loop, 0, having a button-hole by which it is secured to abntton in the center of the waistband of the trousers. A button may be provided on the inside of the waistband for the 5 purpose, although usually this is unnecessary, as the upper front button of the trousers will answer the purpose. The upper ends of the straps B are provided wit-h snap-hooks b, or

equivalent devices, by which the straps may 0 be readily secured to or released from the eyes a.

Instead of the buckle and eyes a and the hooks b, a spring hook of well-known conslruction may be used adapted to seize the 5 straps A at any point. i

For some styles of waistcoat it may be desiraole to separate thelower ends of the straps -13, setting a piece between them and using two of the straps B B and button attachment 0.60 secured between the shoulder-straps of the suspenders in front and buttonin'g to the front of the trousers, for the purposes and substantially as specified.
