UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT GROMMEB, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
TROUSER CLAMP AND HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 352,046, dated November 2, 1886.
Application filed March 15, 1886.
To all whom, it may concern: W-
Be it known that I, ROBERT CROMlVlER, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trouser Clamps and Hangers, of which the follow- My invention has for its object the construction of a simple and effective device by means of which wrinkles, creases, and abnormal shapes that trousers assume by wearing may be removed therefrom; and it consists of a pair of clamps constructed of wire, bent to a shape near alike to parallelograms and hinged together upon one of the short sides, while the free ends of one clamp are so curved as to enter within the contiguous end of the opposing clamp, and become clasped therein for the purpose of confining between the adjacent faces of said clampsthe lower ends of the leg portion of a pair of trousers, holding the same securely therein, a twisted loop of the wire of one clamp being formed upon the upper side thereof for the purpose of suspension, as
' will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanyingdrawings, which make a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved clamp. Fig. 2 is an edgeview of the same. Fig. 3 is an end view showing the curved loops.
Like letters of reference in all the indicate the same parts.
A A are the clamps of which the holder is constructed, formed of wire, and bent so as to resemble rectangular frames. They are configures nected upon one of the short sides or ends in the manner of a hinge.
The standing loops at on the clamp A are circular, formed by a continuous curve of the Serial No. 195,366. (No model.)
wire, into which the contiguous ends of the wire forming the clamp A are thrust, and bend around, forming loops a, by which means ashifting movement of the clamps over. their faces is avoided, and the clamps are prevented from being turned upon each when extended.
The free end of the clamp A is slightly reduced in width to that of the opposite clamp, and a pair of resilient loops, b b, curved laterally, are formed upon its cornerswhich are caused to engage within the portions 0 c of the clamp A, when the leg portions of a pair of trousers are placed between the clamps. The straight parts 0 a spring over the outer surface of said curved loops b, whenpressure is exerted thereon to make connection; 7 r
A semicircular loop, 6, is formed upon the free end of each c1amp,to permit of the insertion of a finger therein when it is desired to free said clamps from each other.
A twisted loop, d, formed upon the upper edge of the clamp A, provides means for suspension of the holder upon a hook with the body portion of the trousers downward.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A trouser clamp and hanger formed of the clamps A A, hinged together at one end, the clamp being provided with resilient curved loops b for engagement within the portions 0 c of the end of the clamps A, the semicircular loops 6 e, and hanger-loop d, constructed substantially in the manner herein shown and described.
' ROBERT GROMMER.
