Description

May 5, 1970 R. G. MONO 3,509,358
ARRANGEMENT IN OVEN OPENINGS Filed June 18, 1968 Fig.1
United States Patent US. or. 126198 1 Claim ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An oven having a closed compartment and a double walled door defining an intermediate space through which air is circulated to cool the door with an air chamber above the door and an air intake channel in close endto-end relation with the lower end of the door.
The present invention is concerned with oven openings, preferably in ovens used for preparing foodstuffs, and in which the opening is provided with a hinged, heat-insulated door.
When the oven is in continuous use, the outer surfaces of such doors become heated, within a relatively short period of time, to temperatures which are uncomfortable to the touch and which may result in burns or, in all events some form of unpleasantness.
The present invention is intended to eliminate the disadvantage and is mainly characterized in that the door presents between a heat-insulating cover and an outer wall an intermediate space which extends essentially over the entire surface of the door, the intermediate space also being provided with an air intake and an air outlet, and in that when the door is closed the air outlet is connected with means adapted to be placed in communication with means for maintaining a heat-transporting flow of air through the interspace of the oven door, to limit the temperature of the wall.
One embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which FIG. 1 is a front view of an oven FIG. 2 shows a portion of the same oven in cross section.
The oven illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2 has a door 1 by means of which the oven space 2 can be closed or exposed for inserting or removing goods into or out of said oven. The door 1 is provided with a heat-insulating layer, placed in a wall 3 which forms the side of the door facing the oven space and comprises the one wall of an interspace 4 arranged within the door, the said space 4 being defined towards the outside of the oven by an outer wall 5. An inspection opening arranged in the door is provided with two plates of glass 6, one plate positioned in each of the Walls 3 and 5 bordering the space 4.
3,509,868 Patented May 5, 1970 The door is provided at the bottom with an air inlet 7, and at the top with an air outlet 8, each of which comprises one or more openings. The intermediate space 4 forms a through-flow passage which covers the surface of the entire door and through which a flow of air can be maintained for the purpose of carrying away the heat, by means of a fan (not shown) to the suction side of which is connected a suction chamber 9, via a channel 10. The suction chamber 9 is placed above the upper edge of the oven opening and is provided with one or more inlet ports 11, which when the oven door 1 is closed communicate(s) with the air inlet 8 from the intermediate space 4. Air supply to the air inlet 7 on the door 1 can be arranged in a similar manner, by means of a channel 13 opening out below the lower edge of the oven door.
When the oven door is open the suction chamber 9 serves as a suction means from the oven opening instead, and may therefore be conveniently provided with a filter, which separates fat and othe impurities from the evacuation air. The filter may be used at the same time to uniformly distribute the suction effect in the inlet 11 of the suction chamber.
The invention is not restricted to the illustrated and described embodiment, but may be varied within the scope of the following claim.
What is claimed is:
1. An oven which comprises a closed compartment having top and bottom walls with an oven opening at one end between said walls, a hinged, heatdnsulated door mounted in position to close said opening, said door having an inner wall and an outer wall defining an intermediate space therebetween which space extends essentially over the entire surface of the door, said door having an air intake to said intermediate space in the form of one or more ports positioned at the lower end of the door, said door having an air outlet from said intermediate space positioned at the upper end of said door, means defining an air chamber extending along at least a portion of the upper edge of the oven opening and having one or more ports communicating with said air outlet when said door is closed, means providing an air intake channel positioned in close end-to-end relation with the lower end of said door and extending away from said lower end to a location below said bottom wall, said channel being in communication with said air intake when said door is closed, and a fan connected to said air chamber to cause air flow through said intermediate space.
