UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE A. GALLOXVAY, OF FOUNTATN, lNDlANA.
FENCE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 350,127, dated October 5, 1886.
Application filed January 5, 1596. Serial No. ls'LUz-S. (Nu model.)
T 0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. GALLO\VAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fountain, in the county of Fountain and State of Indiana, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Fences, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
Myinvcntion .relates to indestructible or the proof fences, my object being to construct a fence in sections ot'burncd earthenware or clay, the sections being dovetailed together and braced. as will be hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a transverse section.
In the figures, A represents the base of the t'ence, which may be in either one or two pieces, and which has molded upon its upper face projections near its outer ends, which are sot'ormed at their upper ends that they may engage sections of the fence, which, when joined, form a. dovetailed connection.
B and B represent two of the side sections of the t'ence, said fence being builtin V or tapering shape, as represented, space being left between the two sides. Each end of the sections is formed or beveled and grooved, so that they readily dovetail together as one is placed upon the other.
0 represents the cappiece, which has two doWnwardlyprojectin sides, the lower edges of which are formed in a manner similar to that of the contiguous sections, so that they will tit and dovetail with them.
I) D represent braces, which are placed between the two sidesot'the fence, and which have their ends dovetailed into the sections B B. These braces prevent both the separatioi'i and the collapsing of the sides.
All the parts of this 't'cnee are made of clay or other similar suitable material, and then burned or baked. \Vhen put together, it is fire-proof, will endure for ages, and can beconstrueted at a reasonable cost, certainly as com-- pared with its advantages.
Having thus fully described this invention. what I claim as new, and desire to secure by T Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with the base having dovetailed projections, of the side sections dovetailed to the base and to each other and inclining inwardly toward the top, and the conical capdovetailed to andsurmount lug said sections, substantially as specified.
2. In combination with the dovetailed sections and base, constructed as described, the internal braces dovetailed thereto, substantially as specified.
In testimony whcreol'l altix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
