W. A. HULL.
ORNAMENT FOR LAMP SHADES.
No. 350,058. Patented Sept. 28, 1886.
UNITED SrATEs PATENT @rrrce.
\VOLCOTT A. HULL, OF NE\V YORK, N. Y.
ORNAMENT FOR LAMP-SHADES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 350,058, dated September 28 1886.
Application filed Juno .7, 1886. Serial No. 205,416. (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, WoLcorT A. HULL, of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Ornaments forLamp-Shades, of which the following is a specification.
My improvement consists in the combination of a shade and separate ornaments therefor, severally comprisingga portion forming a segment of a shade-crown, a portion extending downwardly below the same, and projections whereby it may be secured to a shade.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of a lampshade having ornaments embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a plan or top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in both figures.
A designates a shade, which may be of any desired shape and material. As shown, it has a circumferential flange, a, at its upper edge.
B designates ornaments, which may be made of metal or other suitable material and of any desired configuration. They each have a portion, 1), extended so as to form asegment of a circle, in such manner that when a sufficient number of them are placed together about a lamp-shade the portions 1) will meet or overlap at their ends, so as to form a continuous shade-crown. This construction of the ornaments is advantageous, because the extended segmental portions 1) have a bearing on the shade which tends to prevent the ornaments, when placed upon the shade, from canting to one side or riding up. The ornamentsare therefore steadied and caused to maintain a true position on the shade.
The ornaments are maintained upon the shade by means of hooks or tongues 0, arranged upon the inside of the portions b, and bent in such manner that they may extend over the flange a on the shade. It will be observed that the hooks c are below the upper edge of the portions 1), forming the segments of the crown, and are consequently hidden from view. The hooks 0 may be either stamped up out of the ornaments or may be separately secured thereto by solder or otherwise.
That I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of a shade and separate ornaments therefor, severally comprising a portion forming a segment of a shade-crown, a portion extending downwardly below the same, and projections whereby it may be secured to a shade, substantially as specified.
