PAD-COVER FOR CARRIAGE-STEPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent m5349586. dated September 28, 1886.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN T. DICKEY, of Trenton, in the county of Mercer and State I of New J ersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Rubber-Pad Covers for Carriage-Steps, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and accurate description of the same.
Rubberpad covers for carriage steps have i been employed heretofore; but they have always been secu red in place by clamps of some kind secured by screws to the metallic step. i Usually they have a thin margin adapted to fold over the edge of the step and be clamped against the under side thereof by a frame secured with Screws.
The object ot' my improvement is to avoid the necessity of using screws or clam ps ot' any kind, and therefore to avoid the liability of loosing detachable parts and the difficultiesattending the placing and securing the pad in that or any similar way, by making the pad with a pocket on its under side having sufficient elastieity to permit it to be passed over the corners ot' the shoe, and yet rigidity enough to retain its shape and place after being so attached.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view ot' my pad in position. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same from the under side. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the same.

Having described my invention, l claim as new- A cover pad for carriage-steps, composed of a plate or pad, B, provided ou its under side with a continuous uuder-tl'lrued margin, d, constituting a pocket adapted to receive and inclose all the edge of' the step-plate, except at the point where the step-arm isjoincd to said plate, whereby said pad will be retained in place withoutotherfasteuings, substantially as Set forth.
