Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY C. SERGEANT, OF CINCINNATI., OHIO.
IM PROVEM ENT IN GAS-REGULATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 34,996. dated April 15, 1862.V
To all iff/"210771. it may concern: p
Ilo ity known 1hatLIIENRv(. SERGEANT, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and the State of Ohio, have invented anew and Improved Regulator' for Gas andI do hereby def-lare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference bein g had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in Which- Figure 1 is aperspective View. Fig. 2 is a' vertical part section of the key of gas-cock, showing' the regulating-screw. Fig. 43 represents the nut for holding the key in its place. Fig. 1L represents the regulating-screw for increasing or diminishing the opening in the key of the cock.
My improved regulator consists in the a1'- rangement of a small screw placed in one end of the key of the cock, so arranged that by turning it the opening in the key can be increased or diminished at pleasure, according to the amount of light required, th stop-cock being used for turning on and olf the gas and the regulating-screw to govern the amount of opening.
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use `my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures. l
A represents the regulating-screw, which ls to beadjusted to the desired amount of opening, (by a key or wrench made for that purpose.)
B represents the look-nut, whichis also adjusted by the wrench to hold the key of the cock in its proper position.
(l represents the opening in the key of the cock, which is increased or diminished by the turning of the regulating-screw.
The operation is easily understood. Open the gas-cock with the thumb and iinger, then place the Wrench upon the reg11lating-scre\v, turn it until you have the desired amount of light, then set the lock-nut down to its propel' place, allowing the key of the cock to move freely. Then by opening and shutting the gas-cock you will iind that you always have specification.
